Chirico commits to Brockport

Dominic Chirico of the Connecticut Chiefs has committed to SUNY Brockport for the fall of 2022. 

The ’01 native of Overland Park, KS is in his final season of his junior hockey career in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL).

“Dom has been a great leader for us this season,” said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. “From the first time we spoke this summer, I knew Dom was going to be able to achieve his goal of playing NCAA hockey. His versatility and high compete level are second only to his incredible character.  I’ve known coach Dickinson for a long time, and I know Dom is going to fit in perfectly at Brockport”

This is Chirico’s second season in the EHL.  Last year, he managed put up 26 points in just 42 games as a defenseman.  This year Dom returned to the Chiefs in the role of team captain to lead the Chiefs and bolster the D-core.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to join the Golden Eagles and play at SUNY Brockport for the next 4 years. Brockport has a beautiful campus and great academic options for me to pursue my goals.  I would like to thank my family and friends for sticking by my side throughout my whole hockey career.  I would also like to specifically thank Coach Heffernan for all his help in this process. “We have a very deliberate model here centered around player development and exposure” said Heffernan of his program. “Dom has bought into the process and earned his commitment to a great NCAA program. I suspect that many of his teammates will be following in his footsteps soon.” 

After sending 10 players to the NCAA last season, Chirico has managed to captain a young Chiefs team into sole possession of 2nd place in the EHL central division heading into the Christmas break.

Grund commits to Brockport

How's this for a Christmas present? Josh Grund has committed to Brockport. The slick forward is a point-a-game guy. This season in the EHL he's played 22 games for the Walpole Express where he had a 8-12-25 stat line and 28 games for the Boston Jr. Rangers where he's had a 11-18-29 line.

#1 Geneseo beats Brockport

 The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team held the nation's top team to just one goal in the first two periods and rallied with a third period goal from Trevor Pray, but the comeback bid fell short as No. 1 Geneseo topped the visiting Golden Eagles 3-1 in SUNYAC action on Friday night. 
 
Brockport's record moved to 8-5 overall and the Golden Eagles remain in second place in the league standings with 15 total points (5-3 SUNYAC record).  Geneseo remains unbeaten and improved to 11-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play.

Brockport senior goalie Nolan Egbert stopped 31 shots, marking his third 30+ save effort of the season.  Pray's third period goal came at the 8:55 marker of the final stanza and he now has a career-best six goals this season through 13 games. 

Geneseo jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Henry Cleghorn found the back of the net off assists from Chris Perna and Matthew Doran to hand the Ice Knights the early advantage. 
 
Brockport outshot the nation's top team 10-5 in the second period of play, but the Golden Eagles were held to an 0-for-2 effort on the power-play in the 20 minute stretch and the contest held at 1-0 headed into the final period of play.  22 of Brockport's 27 total shots came in the final 40 minutes of action. 

Geneseo added two insurance goals early in the third period to take a 3-0 lead.  The two goals came just 11 seconds apart and they came from the sticks of Tyson Gilmour and Greg Koutsomitis.  Doran picked up his second assist of the night on Geneseo's second goal of the game. 

Pray, Connor Galloway and Sam DiBitetto each posted a team-high four shots on goal for the Golden Eagles.  The Brockport penalty kill unit held Geneseo to a 0-for-3 effort with a man advantage, but the Golden Eagles were also held to an 0-for-4 effort on the power-play. 

Geneseo outshot Brockport 34-27 on the evening. 

The Golden Eagles will now have a month-long holiday/semester break and they return to action back at the friendly confines of the Tuttle North Ice Arena on January 7^th when they host non-conference foe Lebanon Valley. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.

Higgins commits to Brockport

 

Josh Higgins, a forward for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to SUNY Brockport for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Orchard, Park, NY is in his 2nd season with the Avalanche, and 1st as the team's captain. In 64 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, the all-star defenseman has tallied 23 total points to his credit.

"Josh has been a great player and a great leader for us, over the last two years," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He will join a handful of Avalanche alumni at Brockport. I think the SUNYAC as a league, and the school in general, fits Josh well, and I know he is going to have a very successful collegiate career both on the ice and in the classroom. Higgy will be tough to replace, but I can not wait to see what the future holds for him, he is a great young man."

As Cerella mentioned, Higgins will join five other Avalanche alumni when he arrives at Brockport, including the captain that preceded him in Hooksett. After leading the Avalanche to the 2021 EHL Championship Game, Chris Aarons set out to join the Golden Eagles back in late August/early September. Now, with Higgins' commitment, the Avalanche have sent back-to-back captains to Brockport.

"I would like to thank my parents and other family members for being there for me along the way, and helping me get to this point. Brockport loses to Elmira in a rare Tuesday night affair

The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles (8-4,5-2) dropped its final home game of 2021 to non-conference opponent Elmira College (7-3-1,3-2-1) on Tuesday night by a score of 4-3.
 
The first goal of the game belonged to Mitchell Parsons who scored 1:39 into the first period off a assist from Anthony Hora and Ryan Romeo. The Soaring Eagle from Elmira would tally its first goal of the game at the 4:07 mark of the same period evening the game up a 1-1. At 6:15 Robert Flannery of Brockport would net a goal with assists from Romeo and Hora again to make the lead 2-1. After having assisted on the previous two plays, Romeo would net a slap-shot that managed to find its way into the back to give Brockport a 3-1 advantage heading into the second period of the game.
 
3-minutes into the start of the second period, Elmira would get another goal cutting its lead to one. The Soaring Eagles would then score again at the 13:40 mark of the period to tie the game at 3-3 which would remain the score going into the final period of play.
 
In the third period with both teams recording three goals each, Elmira would get the final goal of the game at 6:09 into the period. The score would remain 4-3 until the final horn of the night as Elmira would just edge Brockport.
 
A total of 14 penalties were called in the game as Elmira recorded eight trips to the penalty box. In face-offs, Brockport went 33 for 67.
 
In goal for the Golden Eagle's, Aidan Curry had a stellar performance recording a total of 31 saves allowing four goals, two of which from Elmira power-play opportunities.
 
The Golden Eagle's next contest will take place on Friday as they'll travel to neighboring Geneseo where they'll take on the #1 Nationally Ranked Knights. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm at the Ira S. Wilson Arena in Geneseo, NY

Egbert and Romeo get SUNYAC honors again

 

Nolan Egbert and Ryan Romeo were named the SUNYAC/PrestoSports Men's Ice Hockey Athlete and Goaltender of the Week on Monday. Brockport won both of its games this past week, improving to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference on the season.

Nolan Egbert went 2-0 in a key SUNYAC Conference weekend for the Golden Eagles. He recorded a total of 57 saves in the Golden Eagle's wins over Buffalo State and Fredonia this past weekend. Against Buffalo State, Egbert recorded a total of 27 saves allowing only one goal in the teams 6-1 road victory. The following night in Brockport's 4-2 win over Fredonia, Egbert recorded a total of 30 saves against the Blue Devils finishing the weekend with a goals against average of 1.52. Allowing three goals against a total of 57 shots leaves Egbert with a .950 save percentage to end the weekend. Amongst goaltenders In the SUNYAC who have recorded over 500 minutes of play this season, Egbert currently ranks first in fewest goals allowed (14), goals against average (1.57), save percentage (.944%), win percentage (.778%) and wins (7).

Ryan Romeo finished the SUNYAC weekend with a team-high total of five points, tallying one assist in the team's 6-1 victory on the road at Buffalo State Friday. He also contributed to all four of Brockport's goals in a 4-2 victory over Fredonia at home on Saturday. He netted one power-play goal and recorded three assists. He was also +5 over the course of the two victories for the Golden Eagles. Romeo currently leads all defenders in the SUNYAC in goals (6), power-play goals (3), assists (12) and points (18). He currently leads all skaters in assists and is tied for first in points and ranks second in the conference in plus/minus (+16).

Romeo has a 4-point night in win over Fredonia

 The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team won its third consecutive game in a row on Saturday night, defeating Fredonia 4-1.
 
Four different Golden Eagles scored in the game including Ryan Romeo, Connor Galloway, Anthony Hora and Andrew Harley. Jacob King and Kevin Mainello record assists while Harley picked up two assists to go along with his goal. Ryan Romeo was able to contribute to all four goals in the game as he tallied three assists with his one goal.
 
In the first period, Brockport struck first on a power-play goal by Ryan Romeo with 56 seconds remaining in the period. Assisting him on the play was King and Mainello who helped give the Green and Gold a 1-0 lead heading into the second period of the game.
 
3:44 into the second period of play Fredonia would answer back to even up the game at 1-1 when Ethan Kirbis scored from an assist by Matt Letmanski. The goal would stand as the only goal of the period for either team.
 
With both teams heading into the third and final period of regular play, the Golden Eagle would take advantage of a 5 on 3 power-play opportunity when Andrew Harley would fire a shot that deflected off Fredonia's goaltender from their Connor Galloway gathered the rebound and put the puck into the back of the net. Galloway's power-play goal would put the Green and Gold up 2-1 at the 2:20 mark of the third period. Adding to Brockports third period goals was Anthony Hora who sent a shot from one knee into Fredonia's net making the Golden Eagles lead now 3-1. Trailing in the third, Fredonia would attempt to get back in the game and would manage to get one more goal prior to Andrew Harley scoring an empty net goal with 1:08 remaining in the game to give Brockport the win with a final score of 4-2.
 
In power-plays, Brockport was 2-5 on the night with Fredonia going 0-2 on power-play opportunities. In face offs, Brockport went 38 for 55 as Jacob King went 11-11 in face offs while Chris Aarons went 9-6, Mainello 9-5 and Mitchell Parsons 8-4.
 
In Net for the Golden Eagles, Nolan Egbert recorded a total of 30 saves allowing only 2 goals against Fredonia. Between last night's game at Buffalo State and tonight's, Egbert ends the weekend with a total of 57 saves and three goals allowed to end the weekend.
 
The Golden Eagle's next will host the Elmira Soaring Eagle's on Tuesday at 7pm in the Tuttle North Ice Arena. The contest will be the last home game for the men's ice hockey team before the end of the semester. From there they will travel to #1 Geneseo on Friday, December 10th for a 7pm puck drop until its next home game on Friday, January 7th.
 

Brockport declaws the Bengals

 The SUNY Brockport ice hockey team defeated the Buffalo State Bengals in Friday night's contest by a score of 6-1. In total, six different golden eagles managed to record goals while 10 players picked up assists in the 6-1 victory over Buffalo State.
 
Mitchell Parsons came to play, netting the first goal of the game only one minute and two seconds into the first period. Assisting Parsons on the play was the first defensive line of Anthony Hora and captain Ryan Romeo. The Bengals would come back scoring their first and only goal of the game to even things up 1-1 which would remain the score all the way until the end of the first period.
 
The second period saw complete dominance from the Golden Eagles scoring four unanswered goals. Netting the go ahead goal for the Green and Gold was Trevor Pray off assists from Tim Cronin and Kevin Mainello. Cronin's assists on the play marks the first of his collegiate career. Leading 2-1 at the 16:20 mark of the game, Mainello would put the puck in the back of the net himself with Pray and Cronin assisting him this time around to now lead 3-1.
 
29 short seconds later Brockport would add to it's lead as Andrew Harley scored to give extra insurance to the Golden Eagles as Jacob King and reigning SUNYAC Rookie of the Week Connor Galloway would pick up assists on the goal. After an interference penalty on the Buffalo State goalie would give the Golden Eagles a man advantage power-play opportunity, Jake Colosanti would net his first goal of the game at the 17:52 mark off a one timer towards the top of the point to give Brockport a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the final period of the game.
 
In the third period of play, Brockport managed to score yet again at the 17:41 mark as Jacob King recorded his seventh goal of the season on assists from Sam DiBitetto and Jake Colosanti
 
Brockport managed to send off a total of 38 shots against the Bengals, but only winning 28 of 64 faceoffs.
 
In Net yet again for Brockport was Nolan Egbert who managed to make a total of 27 saves allowing only one goal in the contest. Buffalo State's starting goalie Emil Norrman recorded 13 saves before coming out of the game as he would only allow one goal due to equipment malfunction before Connor Minch replaced him making a total of 19 saves and allowing five goals in the game.
 
Brockport will next host Fredonia on Saturday December 4th at home in the Tuttle North Ice Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7pm.
 

Brockport to take on WNY foes

 The SUNY Brockport Men's ice hockey team will split an away and home come this upcoming weekend as they'll travel to Buffalo State Friday night, before hosting Fredonia on Saturday. The Golden Eagle's game against the Bengal's on December 3rd is scheduled for 7pm at the Buffalo State Ice Arena. Brockport will then head back home to Host Fredonia the following night, December 4th, with puck drop scheduled for 7pm in the Tuttle North Ice Arena.
 
The Golden Eagle's traveled to Skidmore College over the weekend to take part in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. In the team's first game against Connecticut College, it saw the Green and Gold drop its third game in a row by a score of 3-2. The following day in the tournament's consolation game, the Golden Eagle's resurged defeating Chatham University by a score of 7-1.
 
Senior goalie Nolan Egbert picked up his fifth win of the season between the pipes for the Golden Eagles. He stopped 24 shots, including 12 in the second period alone. Egbert has allowed one goal or less in three contests this season.
 
As announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon, sophomore Connor Galloway was named the Prestosports Rookie of the Week for scoring his first collegiate hat-trick in the teams win over the Cougars. In team stats, Galloway is tied for third in goals (4), tied for fifth in assists (4) and sits alone in fifth in points (8), as well as third in the plus/minus category (+10).
 
The Golden Eagles as a team currently have been give the most power play opportunities in the conference as the team has had a total of 53 power-plays to work off. The Green and Gold have also only allowed a total of 82 penalty minutes with is the second lowest in the SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles rank second In the conference amongst goal allowed (16), second lowest in goals allowed average (1.78%), assists (64), and goals per game (4.00). the team is also ranked third in the conference in goals, having scored a total of 36 so far this season.
 
Captain Ryan Romeo is the current leader of all defenseman In three major scoring categories in the SUNYAC as he's tallied 13 points on five goals and assists nine games into the season. Freshman Jacob King currently ranks tied for second in points amongst forwards in the conference as he's tallied 12 so far this year. his six goals place him tied for fourth amongst forwards and tied for seventh in assists with six.
Amongst netminders, Nolan Egbert is tied for second in the conference in goals allowed (11), goals against average (1.58), save percentage (.942) and tied for first in the SUNYAC for wins (5).
 
Looking at Buffalo State, The Bengal's are currently 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The teams most recent game saw them lose to Trine University by a score of 5-3 on Saturday November 27th. Nikita Kozyrev is the teams leader in points so far this season as he's recorded 10 points on four goals and six assists. Starting in net for six games this season, Emil Norrman has allowed a total of 18 goals making 188 saves while spending nearly 357 minutes in goal.
 
Looking at Fredonia, they have started off the season with a 4-3-1 overall record and a conference record of 2-1. In the Blue Devil's most previous game on Tuesday, November 23rd, they battled the Nazareth Golden Flyers which ended in a 2-2 tie game. Prior to the Blue Devil's game against the Golden Eagle's on Saturday, they'll first play host to traveling #1 Geneseo. Leading the Blue Devil's offense this season is David Sudbrink who leads the team in goals (4), assists (5) and points (9). Logan Dyck has started in net in all seven games for Fredonia allowing 17 goals in 417:16 time in net. He's recorded 244 total saves and accumulated 2.44 goals against average.
 
Brockport's home game against Fredonia will be the last weekend night game for the Golden Eagle's before winter break. the Golden Eagle's will host one more game following the weekend as they'll welcome Elmira College on Tuesday night for a rare weekday showcase. The game will take place in the Tuttle North Ice Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7pm.

Galloway is SUNYAC Rookie of the Week

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named Brockport's Connor Galloway the Rookie of the Week in a release on Monday afternoon.
 
Galloway recorded his first collegiate hat-trick over the weekend in the team's victory over Chatham University in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. In Sunday's game against the Cougars, Galloway tallied three points on three goals while picking up a plus/minus of +4. This season he's recorded a total of eight points on four goals and four assists with plus/minus of +10.

Galloway is tied for third this season in goals, Tied for fifth in assists and sits alone in fifth in points, as well as being tied for second in the plus/minus category with fellow rookie Jacob King.

Galloway ends losing streak with a hat trick

Connor Galloway registered his first collegiate hat-trick and Brockport snapped a three-game slide as the Golden Eagles topped Chatham University 7-1 in the consolation game of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Ryan Romeo was named to the All-Tournament team after netting two goals and adding one assist over the course of two games.

Brockport's offense returned to form and matched a season-high with seven goals to earn a third-place finish at the tournament.  The Golden Eagles improved to 6-3 overall and they return to the ice on the road Friday when they take on host Buffalo State in SUNYAC action at 7 p.m. Chatham's record fell to 1-5-2 overall on the year.

12 different skaters registered at least one point for the Golden Eagles. Galloway led the way with three goals, while freshman forward Jacob King added a career-high three points on one goal and one assist. Andrew Harley and Corey Tam each added two assists, while Ryan Romeo chipped in with one goal and one assist. Romeo leads Brockport with 13 points on five goals and eight assists this season, while King ranks second on the team with 12 points six goals and six assists.

Senior goalie Nolan Egbert picked up his fifth win of the season between the pipes for the Golden Eagles. He stopped 24 shots, including 12 in the second period alone. Egbert has allowed one goal or less in three contests this season.

Brockport jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 43 seconds into the contest when Galloway found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles the early lead.  King and Tam assisted on Brockport's first goal of the game.  Chatham knotted the score at 1-1 at the 16:04 marker of the first period on a power-play, but that was as close as the Cougars would get. 

Brockport took the lead right back just 39 seconds later when King netted his team-high sixth of the year off assists from Harley and Jordan Rosenbaum to hand the Golden Eagles a 2-1 advantage. 

Bport then rattled off five unanswered goals to seal the non-conference victory.  Trevor Pray netted his fourth goal of the year with two minutes left in the first and Brockport held a two-goal lead headed into the second period.  Michael Meredith and Kevin Mainello assisted on Pray's lone goal of the night. 

Brockport netted two goals in each of the final two periods to earn the convincing six goal victory.  Romeo got Brockport going in the second with his fifth of the year, before Galloway netted two straight goals to complete the hat-trick.  Zach Norby then added his first of the year with less than four minutes to go in the contest to cap the scoring on the evening. Jake Mendeszoon and Casey Winn each recorded an assist on the final goal of the contest.

The Golden Eagles outshot the visitors 38-25 on the day.  Chatham goalie Peter Siolas stopped 22 shots in relief of Thomson Phinney for Chatham. 

Brockport falls to Connecticut in Skidmore Invitational

The SUNY Brockport hockey team lost its third game in a row to Connecticut College on the first day of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. Brockport's comeback came up short, as the team fell 3-2, making its record 5-3 overall.
 
Mitchell Parsons tallied one goal and one assist in the contest, while Ryan Romeo scored the other goal for the Green and Gold. Zach Norby and Jacob Rodrigue were both credited with helpers in the game. Aidan Curry got the start between the pipes, coming up with 17 saves in the loss.
 
Connecticut owned a 3-0 lead in the second period before Brockport started to rally. Norby served Parsons up for the team's first goal of the game about halfway through the second to get Brockport on the board. Romeo took advantage of attacking on the power play to make it a 3-2 game. The crew was unable to find the game tying goal down the stretch, resulting in the one-goal defeat.
 
 The Golden Eagles were 1-for-6 on the power play and held their opponent to 1-for-4 in power play chances. They also outshot Connecticut, 44-20, in the contest and narrowly won the faceoff battle, 30-26.
 
Ryan Romeo remains the team leader with 11 total points on the season after he found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. Mitchell Parsons is right behind his teammate with 10 points now, after recording his fourth goal and sixth assist of the year.
 
Jacob King, Andrew Harley, and Scott Ramaekers all had plenty of shots on net in the game. The three combined for 24 shots, while King was 14-for-23 on the faceoff. Jake Mendeszoon did his part defensively by blocking six shots in front of the net. Kevin Mainello was also successful on the faceoff, winning 11 of his 19 opportunities.
 
Connecticut College received two goals from Seth Stadheim and one from Paul Capozzi. The goaltender, Michael McHale made 42 saves to help the team get its first win of the year. Connecticut will face the host school, Skidmore College at 4 pm on Sunday for the Championship of the Thanksgiving Invitational.
 
The Golden Eagles look to put a stop to this losing skid on Sunday in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational Consolation Game. They will face Chatham University at 1 pm.

Brockport to play in Thanksgiving weekend tournament

 The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team will travel to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY to take part in this weekends Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. The four teams taking part in the tournament are Brockport, host Skidmore College, Chatham University and Connecticut College. The Golden Eagle's will take on Connecticut College in the first game on Saturday, November 27th at 5pm and pending results will play either Skidmore or Chatham University the follow day in either the finals or consolation game at 1/4pm.
 
Looking back at this weekend's game's the Green and Gold dropped both of its contests to Oswego State and Cortland on Friday and Saturday nights. Against the Lakers, Brockport was handed its first loss of the season following a 5-0 start, in a close 2-1 contest which saw captain Ryan Romeo net the lone goal in the game for Brockport. The following night in Cortland, NY freshman Jacob King recorded both two goals for the Golden Eagles in a 4-2 loss to the Red Dragons.
 
Looking at conference Statistics, Ryan Romeo leads all defensemen in the SUNYAC in goals (3) assists (7) and points (10). In plus/minus's Romeo ranks third amongst all defenders with +9. Jacob King is the current plus/minus leader in the conference for forwards with +8 and is tied for fifth place in goals (5) this season of all skaters. Of goaltenders, with over 300 minutes of playing time, Nolan Egbert currently ranks first with the fewest number of goals allowed (10) and the lowest goals against average (1.68%).
 
Heading into this weekend's tournament, Connecticut College is 0-2 overall with both loses against its New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents. Having lost both of its two games by scores of 5-1 to Trinity and Wesleyan, Anthony Qualtieri and Will Winship are the Camels leading goal scorers with one goal apiece. Michael McHale and Sean Dynan have split time in net for Connecticut each both playing one a full one game apiece as each have allowed five goals this season in one game each.
 
Chatham University is currently 1-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 against its United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponetns to begin its season. The teams most recent game on Tuesday, November 23rd saw the Cougars get shutout to Trine University by a score of 3-0. Tristan Simm is the team's leader in goals (3) and points (6) as Michael Lamison is the Cougars leading assists leader (4). In netl, Ricardo Gonzalez has spent the most time in the crease making the most starts of the teams' goaltenders with three. He currently has allowed nine goals and has a goal against average of 2.84.
 
Host Skidmore College has started off the season 2-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the New England Hockley Conference (NEHC). The Thoroughbreds recently battled #8 Babson College which saw them lose to the Beavers 4-2. Patrick Kaeden and Everett Wardle lead Skidmore in the three scoring categories as each have recorded seven points, four goals and three assist. Tate Brandon has started all six games in goal for the Thoroughbreds allowing a total of 16 goals this year with a 2-3-1 record.

Brockport falls to Cortland

 The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team (5-2,3-2) dropped its second game of the season to hosting SUNY Cortland (4-2-1, 2-2-1) by a score of 4-2. Jacob King would score both Golden Eagle's goals with Connor Galloway tallying two assists and Andrew Harley picking up one assist during the game.
 
The Golden Eagle's managed to get the first point of the game when Jacob King scored his fourth goal this season at the 15:47 mark of the first period. Andrew Harley and Connor Galloway helped King's goal as the two picked up assists. Cortland tied things back up at 1-1 following a power-play goal with 3:04 remaining in the first period.
 
The Red Dragon's would take their first lead of the game with 2:05 remaining in the second period on an even strength goal making Cortland lead 2-1 entering the third period of play.
 
Cortland would go on to extend its lead in the third period 3-1 at the 5:32 mark of the final period. The Golden Eagle's would bring their deficit back to one off Jacob King's second goal of the night. King's goal to make the score 3-2, came with an extra attacker on ice off a delayed penalty with Galloway assisting him for the second time tonight. The Red Dragon's would close out the game when with six seconds left, they'd score the final goal on an empty net to give the Red Dragon's the 4-2 victory.
 
The Green and Gold would manage to record a total of 27 shots in the game against that of the Red Dragons 29 shots. In faceoffs Brockport managed to win 31 of 64 faceoffs during the night. Capitalizing on power-plays was another struggle for the Golden Eagle's as the team went 0-5 on power-play opportunities compared to Cortland who went 1-3 on power-play opportunities.
 
Nolan Egbert spent the nearly 60-minutes in goal for Brockport as he recorded 24 saves throughout the night.
 
The Golden Eagle's will return to action on the road next weekend as the team will travel to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY for the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. Brockport will face Connecticut College in the first game at 5 p.m. on Saturday November 27th. pending results the Golden Eagle's will then play at 1 or 4 pm the following day in a consolation or finals game against either Chatham University or hosting Skidmore College.

Oswego breaks Brockport's winning streak

The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles dropped their first game of the season on Friday night by a score of 2-1 to visiting Oswego State (3-2-1,3-0-1).
 
The Programs most consecutive wins streak was halted at five games and ties the program record set back in 1980. For Brockport, Ryan Romeo scored the only goal on an unassisted play.
 
Oswego State scored first as both teams played nearly a solid first half of defense before The Lakers got on the board at the 14:46 mark of the first period on a power-play goal.
 
The Lakers second goal also came off a power-play opportunity at the 11:46 mark of the second period to give Oswego State a 2-0 lead.
 
Ryan Romeo then tallied the only goal for the Golden Eagles all night with 4:08 remaining in the second period to make the game closer with a score of 2-1.
 
The third period proved to be a scoreless one, but the Golden Eagles didn't go down without a fight as a power-play opportunity by Brockport with 1:08 left in the game allowed Bport to also pull its goalie for a 6-4 man advantage that the Golden Eagles could capitalize on as Oswego State took home the win.
 
The big story for both sides was the power-play opportunities as Oswego state went 2-5 on power-plays while Brockport couldn't capitalize on any going 0-5. A total of 17 penalties were given between both teams with Oswego recording nine and Brockport eight.
 
The Golden Eagles put a total of 31 shots on goal as Jacob King led the charge with a total of five shots. In Net, Nolan Egbert recorded a career high 34 saves, allowing two goals off Oswego power-plays. In faceoffs, Brockport managed to beat Oswego in the stats line going 30 for 57 with Jacob King winning 16 of his 24 faceoffs for Brockport.
 

Brockport to play Oswego and Cortland this weekend

The #16 SUNY Brockport ice hockey team is off to its best start since 1980 where the team won five consecutive games to begin the season. Looking to break that record and make it six wins in a row Friday night, the Golden Eagle's will host their Lake Ontario rival Oswego State (2-2-1, 2-0-1 SUNYAC).  The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm at the Tuttle North Ice Arena connected to the SERC. The team will then hit the road on Saturday to visit the Cortland Red Dragons for a 7:00pm game.
 
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles managed to have a weekend SUNYAC series sweep as visiting Potsdam and Plattsburgh came to town on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night saw netminder Nolan Egbert records his second shutout of the season in route to a 3-0 win over the Potsdam Bears. In that game three different Golden Eagles picked up goals including Mitchell Parsons, Jacob King and Connor Galloway. Ryan Romeo and Andrew Harley both recorded two assists on the night while King and Cam Barbagallo tallied assists as well.
 
Saturday night saw Brockport faceoff against Plattsburgh State, the first time since the Cardinals defeated the Golden Eagles in double overtime in the first round of the SUNYAC Playoff's in 2019-2020. This time around it was Brockport who came out with the dominant 7-3 victory. Andrew Harley recorded two goals in the game as Trevor Pray, Jake Colosanti, Jacob King, Sam Dibitetto and Ryan Romeo each scored a goal against Plattsburgh. Romeo managed to record his seventh assists of the season in the game, making him the conference leader in assists. King, Harley, Barbagallo, Dibitetto, Parsons, Galloway, Robert Flannery, and Jordan Rosenbaum also recorded assists to help the Golden Eagle's win streak alive.
 
Athletes of the Week: The Golden Eagle's play over the weekend grabbed them another clean sweep winning all three (SUNYAC) Prestosports Men's Ice Hockey weekly awards. Andrew Harley won the Rookie of the Week, Nolan Egbert Goalie of the Week and senior captain Ryan Romeo earned himself the Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week.
 
The Hometown Brockport, NY Native Andrew Harley earned his Rookie of the Week nod by managing to tally a total of five points in the two games this past weekend off two goals and one assist. In the Conference, Harley is tied for second in both points (8) and power-play goals (2) while sitting in third place in assists (5) this season.
 
Egbert's Goalie of the Week is his second of the season. His work consisted of making a total of 49 saves in two games along with the shutout victory over the Bears and highlight reel saves to hold off Plattsburgh. This season, He's currently 4-0 and ranks second in the league with 1.25 goals against average.  He has 96 total saves, two shutouts and a .950 save percentage in four starts for the Golden Eagles. Entering an opportunity to win five games in a row would tie former Brockport goalkeeper Matt Schneider's record of five consecutive wins in net since the 2012 season.
 
Senior captain Ryan Romeo has had one of the most productive starts to any player in the SUNYAC this season. This past weekend he played a big role in the weekends sweep as he recorded a total of four points in two games with a +/- of +6. Romeo leads the SUNYAC with nine points this season on two goals and a SUNYAC Leading seven assists. He also leads the conference in plus/minus with ratio of +10.
 
Looking at Oswego: The Lakers are 2-2-1 overall this season and 2-0-1 in SUNYAC play. In its most recent game, Oswego defeated the Cortland Red Dragons by a score of 2-1 on Friday night in Oswego's home arena. Travis Broughman and Connor Sleeth are the Laker's leading points scorers as he has tallied one goal and three assists this year. Josh LeBlanc and Troy Robillard are the team's leading goal scorers with two apiece. Steven Kozikoski has spent the most time in net for Oswego having started in two games while making appearances in four. He is average 1.07 goals against with a save percentage of .938 and total of 60 saves so far this season.
 
Looking at Cortland: The Red Dragons are currently 3-2-0 and 1-2-0 in conference play this season. This past Saturday the Red Dragon's defeated Hobart by a score of 2-1 to hand the Minutemen their first loss of the season. Leading Cortland with six points is nick Grupp with who has tallied two goals and four assists this year. Three other Red Dragons made up of Johnny Facchini, Ethan Homitz and Alex Storjohann have all recorded four assists to lead the team this season. Cortland's leading goal scorer is Cameron Knowlton who's scored three goals this year. Luca Durante has been the only goalie for the Red Dragons as he's allowed a total of 14 goals making 176 saves for an average of 2.77 goals against.

Brockport is currently tied for seventh with Geneseo in the nation in the PairWise Rankings out of 85 teams in Division III hockey.  The PairWise Ranking is a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division III hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.

When Head Coach Brian Dickinson was asked about looking at Oswego State heading into Friday nights matchup and what was one big aspect that is keeping this young team rolling, having its best start to a season since 1980, Dickinson commented,
 
"We will need to keep our feet moving and play a full 200 foot game for 60 minutes. Oswego can strike quickly, and we'll need to outwork them in all three zones."
 
Friday night's home game will be the Golden Eagle's final game in the Tuttle North Ice Arena until after the Thanksgiving break. SUNY Brockport students can enter free of charge while non-Brockport students' admission costs $3. Costs for any other non-student will be $5. All tickets can be purchased prior to the start of the game at the SERC box office located In the SERC main lobby.

The unbeaten SUNY Brockport men's hockey team continues to climb the ranks in the receiving votes category of the latest USCHO.com Division III National Poll released by the highly popular college hockey website on Monday afternoon.  Brockport is the first ranked team in the receiving votes category and 16th overall with 24 total votes.
 
The Golden Eagles (5-0, 3-0) have tied the program-record for consecutive wins to start a season, a record which was originally set back in 1980. Bport is one of three SUNYAC programs either ranked or receiving votes in the poll, alongside nationally ranked No. 1 Geneseo and Oswego (RV).

The #16 SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team sweeps the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) PrestoSports Men's Ice Hockey weekly honors. Announced Monday afternoon, Ryan Romeo has been named the Player of the Week, Nolan Egbert the Goaltender of the Week and Andrew Harley the Rookie of the Week.
 
Over the weekend the Golden Eagles recorded a SUNYAC series sweep over Potsdam and Plattsburgh to tie the programs record of most wins to start a season with five, which was set back in 1980. Graduate student and Co-Captain Ryan Romeo played a big role in the weekends sweep as he recorded a total of four points in two games with a +/- of +6. In Friday night's 3-0 shutout victory against the Bears, Romeo managed to record two points off two assists and recorded a +1 in the +/- column. Handing Plattsburgh its second straight SUNYAC loss, Brockport managed to hand the Cardinals its most goals allowed this season, defeating them 7-3. Romeo's contribution in the game consisted of an empty net goal to close out Brockport's offensive drive, while also tallying an assist earlier in the night. in total Romeo was on the ice for five out of the seven goals Saturday night to record +5 in the +/- column. Romeo is the current leader in the points, assists and +/- categories in the SUNYAC a +10, nine points and seven assists in five games this year.

The Golden Eagles sophomore forward and Brockport, NY native Andrew Harley, was the Green and Gold's points leader over the weekends SUNYAC Series sweep of both Potsdam and Plattsburgh. In both games, he recorded a total of five points scoring two goals and three assists. in Friday night's 3-0 shutout over the Bears, Harley managed to record a +1 on assists during Brockport even strength and power-play goals. In Saturday night's 7-3 blowout win over Plattsburgh, Andrew Harley played a big role in the Golden Eagle's win picking up a pair of goals on the night while tallying an assist in the game and picking +2 in the +/- column. Harley's help in the score column has allowed him to record a point in four consecutive games for the Green and Gold. In the Conference, Harley is tied for second in both points (8) and power-play goals (2) while sitting in third place in assists (5) this season.

Picking up his second Prestosports Goaltender of the Week Award this season, Egbert of the Golden Eagle's was a brick wall in net for Brockport in he teams weekend SUNYAC Series Sweep over Potsdam and Plattsburgh. In Friday night's 3-0 victory over the Bears, Egbert picked up his second shutout of the season over the Bears after making a total of 25 saves without allowing anything to get past him. Starting in goal again the next nights against Plattsburgh State, Egbert made total of 24 saves, one saves short of a total of 50 over the weekend. His efforts would made up following key saves off a couple of Plattsburgh breakaways, including one miraculous save that saw Egbert sprawl and lay out using his leg pads while laying down to block a shot up high. His weekends save percentage consisted of .942%. He currently ranks second in the SUNYAC in save percentage (.950%) and goals against average (1.25). Egbert's efforts in net his year have also seen him record the most wins in the conference totaling four this season, all in a row since his start in the second game of the season in a 6-0 shutout against Neumann University. Of goaltenders who have started games, Egbert has also allowed the fewest goals this season with five. He and the Golden Eagles are currently tied for the programs record of most consecutive wins to start a season with five, a record set back in 1980. the Golden Eagles will look to break that record this weekend as they host Oswego St. on Friday night at 7pm in Brockport, NY at the Tuttle North Ice Arena.

Brockport goes to 5-0; ties team record with start

The #20 SUNY Brockport ice hockey team hosted Plattsburgh State (2-3-1, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) and defeated the Cardinals by a score of 7-3 in Saturday nights contest. The win is the Golden Eagles fifth win in a row to start the year, tying the program record of five wins to start a season which was set back in 1980.
 
When asked about tying that record, Head Coach Brian Dickinson commented, "Tying that record was definitely a team goal this weekend and to achieve it at home was special. We'll enjoy a couple days and then get back to work Monday."
 
Andrew Harley was the Green and Gold's leading goal scorer tonight netting two goals and one assists. Five other Golden Eagles who tallied goals in the contest included Jake Colosanti, Trevor Pray, Jacob King, Sam Dibitetto and Ryan Romeo.
 
Connor Galloway led the team with two assists while Harley, King, Dibetetto, Romeo, Robert Flannery, Mitchell Parsons, Cam Barbagallo, Zach Norby and Jordan Rosenbaum all added a point next to their career assists as well.
 
The Golden Eagle's would get on the board first as Trevor Prey scored the game opening goal on a power-play opportunity at 3:22 into the first period giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would respond with a goal of their own with just under four minutes to go in the first period with the game tied at 1-1.
 
25 seconds into the start of the second period, Brockport's power-play unit would capitalize again as Andrew Harley scored the first of his two goals in the second period increasing Brockport's lead to 2-1. the Golden Eagle would go on to score four unanswered goals in the second period including Harley's second goal of the night along with Jake Colosanti, and Jacob King also finding the back of the net. Following Brockport's four straight goals in the second, Plattsburgh would answer, scoring the last goal of the period at the 12:51 mark.
 
Heading into the third and final period of play with Brockport leading by a convincing 5-2 score, Plattsburgh would make things closer when at the 9:09 mark of the period the Cardinals would score to make the game 5-3. Sam Dibitetto would get the Golden Eagles back its three goal lead finding the back of the net at the 13:13 mark into the third period, increasing Brockports lead to 6-3. The teams co-captain Ryan Romeo would net the final goal of the Golden Eagles busy night as he sent a shot from Bport's defensive zone into the back of Plattsburgh's open net following the Cardinals pulling their goalie. When the final buzzer hit the Golden Eagles would edge out the Cardinals 7-3.
 
When asked how it felt following a big victory over the team that knocked them out of the SUNYAC Playoffs last season in double overtime, Coach Dickinson commented
 
"The Boys were definitely amped up to get a little redemption. It was a great team effort for 60-minutes. The power play was a key factor in gaining momentum and then keeping it in the 2nd period."
 
The Golden Eagles were two for seven on the power-play against Plattsburgh shutting down the Cardinals who went zero for three on theirs. Brockport also defeated the Cardinals in the faceoff's category winning 36 of 68 faceoffs.
 
In net for the Golden Eagles was Nolan Egbert who recorded his fourth victory of the season as Brockport's brick wall in net. The Goaltender recorded a total of 24 saves tonight following his shutout over Potsdam last night.
 
The Golden Eagles will return home next Friday, November 19th when they'll host Oswego State (2-2-1, 2-0-1 SUNYAC) at 7pm, before traveling to SUNY Cortland the following night to battle the Red Dragons.
 
When talking about facing the Lakers to break the programs season opening winning-streak, Coach Dickinson commented,
 
"Playing Oswego is always a benchmark game. They're super talented and have been a premier team for a long time. We're excited to prepare all week for a great fast paced game."

Brockport wins big on Senior Night

 The #20 SUNY Brockport ice hockey team shutout the visiting Potsdam Bears by a score of 3-0. Prior to the game the Golden Eagle's took time to honor eight seniors who have dedicated their time to Brockport and its ice hockey program.
 
The Golden Eagles have now won four straight games to begin the season. Brockport has only accomplished this feat twice in program history. The most recent being in 1980 when the team won five straight games to open the year. If Brockport defeats Plattsburgh tomorrow night, it will tie the all-time program record for wins to start the season with five.
 
After a scoreless first period from both sides, Mitchell Parsons recorded the first goal in the game at the 02:21 mark of the second period off assists from Ryan Romeo and Cam Barbagallo on a 5-3 Brockport power-play. The assists marked the first of Cam Barbagallo's colligate career.
 
Brockport would find the back of the net again in the second period off a power-play opportunity when Jacob King scored at the 10:18 mark. Assisting King on the play were Ryan Romeo and Andrew Harley.
 
Recording the third and final goal in the game was Connor Galloway. Galloway's goal came at the 13:49 mark of the second period and was the first collegiate goal of Galloway's career. Picking up assists on the play were King and Harley.
 
Nolan Egbert was a brick wall in goal for the Golden Eagles tonight. He recorded the second shutout of his career after saving 25 shots against Potsdam.
 
Heading into tomorrow's matchup against Plattsburgh State, when asked about how the team is feeling Head Coach Brian Dickinson had to comment.
 
"The guys are feeling pretty good about the way they're playing. Taking one game at a time. Tonight, was a great testament to the leadership our seniors are providing us right now."

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport ice hockey team will prepare for a couple of SUNYAC matchups this weekend as they'll host Potsdam and Plattsburgh State. The men will take on Potsdam in Friday, November 12th with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 pm. On Saturday night, the men will then turn its attention to Plattsburgh state with a start time of 7:00 pm. Both games will take place at the Tuttle North Ice Arena connected to the SERC lobby.

Senior Night: Prior to Friday night's game the team will hold senior night. Eight seniors who have joined the program over the past five years will be honored and given thanks to for all they've done while at SUNY Brockport. The list of seniors includes Captains Ryan Romeo and Corey Tam along with, Jake Colosanti, Trevor Pray, Robby Flannery, Casey Winn, Mitch Parsons, and goalie Nolan Egbert.
 
Over The Weekend: Following it's 5-2 victory over visiting Morrisville State, the ice hockey team is currently 3-0 to begin the year for the fourth consecutive season. Four different Golden Eagle's tallied a goal in the contest as Jake Colosanti recorded two goals with Scott Ramaekers, Andrew Harley, and Jacob Rodrigue each tallying the first goals of their collegiate careers. In net for the Green and Gold was Nolan Egbert for his second career appearance at Brockport.  Against the Mustangs he managed to pick up the win making 22 saves in the process.
 
Looking at Potsdam: The Bears are currently 0-2 to begin the season having lost a pair of contests to SUNYAC opponents Oswego St. and SUNY Cortland over. Against the Lakers, Potsdam lost by a score of 2-1 before falling to Cortland the next with a final score of 4-1. Jack Bloem is the currently leading goal scorer for the Bears scoring both goals in each game. In net, Connor Green recorded both losses managing to give up a total of five goals in two games. In just two games, The Bears defense has allowed a total of 76 shots to occur. The Golden Eagle currently have won four of seven games against the Bears since the 2017-2018 season.
 
Looking at Plattsburgh: The Game against Plattsburgh this Saturday night will be the first time the two teams will meet up against one another since the First Round of the 2019-2020 SUNYAC Playoffs which saw the Golden Eagles fall in a heartbreaking 3-2 double overtime game. The Cardinals are 2-1-1 to begin the regular season and 1-0-1 in the SUNYAC. In this past weekends games, Plattsburgh managed to record a 6-5 overtime win against SUNY Cortland and tied Oswego State 2-2.  Joey Mancuso is tied on the team for the Cardinals in points with seven, following his four goals over the weekend. His hat trick against Cortland and single goal against Oswego St. was enough to earn him Prestosports Rookie of the Week. Bennett Stockdale managed to tally three goals, three points, one game-winning goal, 10 shots on goal and a +4 rating over the weekend to earn himself the Prestosports Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week. So far, the Cardinals starting goaltender, Anthony Del Tufo has allowed a total of 11 goals this season while making 106 saves in four games played.

"We're looking forward to the next game on our schedule. We're excited to honor the seniors who have done so much for our program in their time here at Brockport. We'll need to be ready to play against a very hungry Potsdam team coming in after a couple of losses. They will be a tough test as our games with them are always hotly contested affairs. We'll prepare for them all week and will turn our attention to Plattsburgh after the game. The league is going to be very tight this year and although we're excited about the quick start, we've gotten off to we have to maintain a one game at a time mentality each week."

The SUNY Brockport ice hockey team (3-0-0, 1-0-0) defeated visiting Morrisville State (0-3-0, 0-2-0) by a score of 5-2 in Saturday night's home and conference opener against the Mustang's.
 
Four different Golden Eagle's tallied a goal in the contest as Jake Colosanti recorded two goals with Scott Ramaekers, Andrew Harley, and Jacob Rodrigue each tallying the first goals of their collegiate careers in the win.
 
The Mustang's recorded the first goal of the game at the 7:17 mark of the first period on a 5 on 3 power-play opportunity to put them up 1-0.
 
Colosanti and the rest of the Golden Eagles were not going to quit as with nearly two minutes remaining in the period at the 18:13 mark Colosanti first goal of the game would tie things up at 1-1. The Play started out along the left side boards as senior Mitchell Parsons would send a pass to freshman Jacob Rodrigue near the blue line. Rodrigue would fire a shot and as the puck headed towards the net Jake Colosanti would step in to redirect the shot to the back of the net off his stick to get the goal.
 
With the game tied 1-1 to start of the second period, Morrisville would get on the board early as it only took them 18 seconds to take back the lead, 2-1.
 
Four minutes into the second period, trailing by a goal, Colosanti would even up the game yet again. This time graduate student and team captain Ryan Romeo dished out a pass to Parsons who fired off a wrister into the chest of the Morrisville goaltender. The shot deflected off the chest back down onto the ice where Colosanti would bring it from the right side of the goal to the left to catch the recovering goalie off guard as he chipped the puck into the net to even up the game at two goals each.
 
4:27 later, junior Scott Ramaekers would score what would be the game winning goal on a 3 on 2 breakaway by the Golden Eagles. With junior Zach Norby bringing the puck up along the left side of the board and fellow junior Kevin Mainello and Ramaekers on his right, it set them up in good position with Morrisville's two defenders back skating looking to make a stop. Norby would pass the puck to the center of the three's attacking zone drawing the defenders towards Mainello who then dished off the puck to Ramaekers attacking the right side of the net. He then deflecting the pass perfectly into the net, making the game 3-2.
 
Working off a 5 on 4 power play opportunity, freshman Jacob King would steal the puck along the boards in Brockport offensive zone. Gaining control off the steal, King would pass the puck up towards the right side face-off circle where Andrew Harley would snipe a shot just between Morrisville's goaltenders left side glove hand and squeezing it past the post to score. Harley's goal would give the Golden Eagle's a bit of insurance in the second period as the home team lead 4-2 entering the last 20:00 minutes of regulation.
 
The Green and Gold's final goal of the game came at the 13:06 mark in the third period as Mainello would dump a pass to Trevor Pray who then gave up the puck to Rodrigue who's shot on net would get past the goaltender. With time ticking down the Golden Eagle's would pick up the 5-2 victory at the end of the night.
 
Making his second appearance between the pipes for the Golden Eagle's this season, the reigning Prestosports Goaltender of the Week, Nolan Egbert picked up his second win of the year. Allowing two goals, one of which off the 3 on 5 power play against Brockport, Egbert managed to record 22 saves in nearly 60 minutes of play. In the past two games, Egbert has made 47 saves, only allowing two goals in that time frame.
 
Following the game when Head Coach Brian Dickinson was asked how it felt returning to play on home ice after 18 months off and what was something that he really enjoyed seeing out of the men in tonight's win, here is what he had to say.
 
"It's an amazing feeling being behind our home bench. I'm very proud of the effort of all the guys. We stayed the course even when we went down by a goal. This is a resilient group of men. I'm glad to see Ramaekers and Rodrigue get goals tonight. They both brought a high level of energy that the rest of the guys fed off."
 
Looking ahead at next weekend, the men will be back at home for a couple of SUNYAC matchups against SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh State. When asked about going into those games, Coach said
 
"We're looking to have a great week of practice to set the tone for playing two very talented teams."
 
On Friday, November 12th against Potsdam will be a special one, as prior to the game the team will host Senior Night to honor the nine seniors on the team who have come through the program over the last five years.
 
On Saturday, November 13th, the Golden Eagles will host Plattsburgh State. This game will have a lot of meaning as the last time these two teams faced off back in 2019-2020, Plattsburgh edged out Brockport in a 3-2 double overtime loss in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs. On Saturday, Brockport will look to get overcome the past and focus on winning the present.
 
Both games will be held in the Tuttle North Ice Arena as puck drops are set for 7pm.
