The Brockport Ice Hockey team will host #10-ranked Utica University in
UCHC opener action on Friday, November 14th at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles
will then head to Utica to face the Pioneers on Saturday, November 15th,
at 7 PM.
Last Outing: The Golden Eagles came up short against nationally-ranked
Oswego State, 4-1, on Saturday, November 8th. The Golden Eagles dropped
to 1-3 on the season following the loss in non-conference action.
Schuyler Flansburg netted the Golden Eagles' lone goal, with freshman Brody Seitz adding an assist.
Dax Easter kept Brockport within striking distance in the loss, making a career-high 40 saves.
Victor Malzahn was active on defense, leading all players with three shot blocks.
Keeping Pace: Through four games, two Golden Eagles have played to a
point per game pace, excelling in the Brockport offensive attack. Manny Sanchez
currently leads all Golden Eagles in points (5), thanks to a team-high
five assists, posting an assist or better in three of four outings.
Freshman Nick Reif
has emerged as a top goal scorer for the Green and Gold, leading the
squad with four goals. Reif powered the Brockport offense to a win at
Neumann, lighting the lamp three times in a matter of moments in a
hat-trick effort.
UCHC Outlook: The Golden Eagles will open their 2025-26 conference slate
at home against Utica, looking to leave their mark in one of the most
competitive hockey conferences in the country. The UCHC conference
features four teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest
USCHO Division III Top-15, including Geneseo (7th), Utica (10th),
Chatham (RV), and Albertus Magnus (RV). The UCHC welcomes three new
additions to the conference for the 2025-26 season, including Elmira,
St. John Fisher, and Albertus Magnus.
Scouting Utica: Coming off an excellent 24-5-2 National Championship
Runner-Up season in the 2024-25 season, the Pioneers have hit a rough
patch to begin the 2025-26 season. Utica has jumped out to a 0-4 start,
most recently losing back-to-back games against the defending national
champions, Hobart College (6-5, 2-1). The Pioneers endured a difficult
non-conference slate that included two games against #2-ranked Adrian
College to begin the season, holding the second-toughest strength of
schedule in the country. The Golden Eagles will look to secure their
first win against Utica in the head-to-head series.
Up Next: Following the home and home with Utica, Brockport will host
Chatham for Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, November 21st at 7 PM.

#10 Oswego beats Brockport
The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated on the road at #10-ranked
Oswego State, 4-1, on Saturday, November 8th. The Golden Eagles fell to
1-3 on the season following the loss at Oswego.
The Lakers wasted no time celebrating Military Appreciation Night, with
Ryan Burke lighting the lamp 5:10 into the first period to open the
scoring. Oswego would generate several scoring chances in the first, but
14 Dax Easter saves would keep the Oswego lead at 1-0 entering the second period.
In a back-and-forth second frame, the Lakers would double their
advantage late in the period. Connor Gatto would find the back of the
net on the power play to put Oswego up 2-0 entering the final period.
Needing a spark in the final 20 minutes, Schuyler Flansburg would connect for Brockport. Freshman Brody Seitz would find Flansburg just 56 seconds into the third period, bringing Brockport within one goal.
Despite scoring chances in the period from Josh Grund, Victor Malzahn, and Spencer Flansburg, two third-period goals from Oswego State would halt the Golden Eagles' comeback bid.

Brockport loses home opener
The Brockport Ice Hockey team dropped its home opener against Buffalo
State, 5-2, on Friday, November 7th. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-2 on
the season following the loss.
The Bengals would strike first in the contest, connecting for a power
play goal. Austin Micale would light the lamp to give Buffalo State a
1-0 edge.
With less than two minutes left in the first period, Brockport would find the equalizer. Jackson Faughnan would notch his first goal as a Golden Eagle, with assists coming from Andrew Haugh and Schuyler Flansburg.
Tied 1-1 in the second period, Buffalo State would own the lone tally of
the period. Aaron Andrade would bury the first of his two goals to give
the Bengals a 2-1 lead entering the final frame.
Despite allowing 12 Buffalo State scoring chances in the second, David Filak would make 11 saves in the period to keep Brockport within striking distance.
The Golden Eagles would start the third period with a bang, seeing Manny Sanchez find Victor Malzahn
to tie the contest once again. Sanchez has been excellent for Brockport
to begin the season, notching his fifth assist of the season.
Across the final 19 minutes, the Bengals would regain control of the
contest, scoring the final three goals of the game. Andrew Langlois
would put Buffalo State ahead 3-2 at the 6:24 mark, with the Bengals
scoring two empty net goals to cement the victory.
David Filak was excellent in defeat, making 34 saves on 37 shots faced.
Jackson Faughnan provided a strong all-around performance, finishing with a goal, four shots blocked, and three shots.
Sacha Trudel was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 15 of 18 draws.
Victor Malzahn led the Golden Eagles with five shots, adding a goal for the Green and Gold.
Andrew Haugh had a strong outing, finishing with an assist and a +2 on the evening.

Ashton, PA, 6-2, on Saturday, November 1st. Brockport improved to 1-1 on
the season following the win in Pennsylvania.
Livio Azevedo and Dominic Chirico sacrificed their bodies, recording two blocked shots each.
Nick Reif (3 G), Aidan Taylor (G, A), Manny Sanchez (3A), Josh Grund (2A), and Joshua Przystal (2G) all provided multi-point efforts to power the Brockport offense.

Freshman Firepower: With seven goals scored across two outings,
Brockport's underclassmen have fueled the offensive attack. First-year
skaters Nick Reif (4G) and Joshua Przystal
(2G) have shown out to begin their Brockport careers, combining for
five of Brockport's six goals in the win against Neumann. Landing on the
UCHC All-Rookie Team in 2024-25, sophomore Aidan Taylor started the season strong with a goal in Brockport's first win of the season.
Welcome Back: Missing the bulk of the 2024-25 season due to injury, Manny Sanchez
has jumped out to an excellent start to the 2025-26 season. The junior
from Potsdam, NY, has racked up four assists to begin the season,
recording three assists in Brockport's win over Neumann. Sanchez has
proven to be a critical playmaker in the Brockport offensive attack,
posting career totals of six goals and 24 assists for 30 points.
Scouting Buffalo State: The Bengals are coming off a successful 2024-25
season, posting a 16-11 overall record with a 9-5 mark in SUNYAC play.
Buffalo State currently holds a 1-1 record, most recently downing Hiram
College at home, 3-0. The former conference foes have played 15 times
since the 2016-17 season, with Brockport holding a 6-7-2 record against
Buffalo State.
Scouting Oswego State: The Lakers rolled to a 16-9-3 2024-25 season,
finishing 9-4-1 in SUNYAC play. Oswego was crowned as the 2024-25 SUNYAC
Champion, advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
The Green and Gold will be searching for their first win against Oswego
since the 2014-15 season.

Friday is HOCKEY NIGHT in Brockport with Reliant Credit Union!
The first 100 fans at Friday’s men’s hockey home opener against Buffalo State (7pm start) will receive a free Reliant Fanny Pack while others will receive a co-branded hockey puck squeezie stress reliever. Reliant will also be handing out free t-shirts throughout the night and will host an exciting intermission competition between the first and second periods.

Reif is UCHC Rookie of the Week
UCHC MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Nick Reif, SUNY Brockport, Fr., F, Depew, NY
In a 1-1 opening weekend for Brockport, Nick Reif recorded four goals on nine shots to power the Golden Eagles offense. In Brockport's 6-2 win against Neumann Saturday, Reif netted three straight goals in 7:55 for his first collegiate hat-trick. He also scored Brockport’s goal at Stevenson Friday.
Brockport wins big against Neumann
The Brockport Ice Hockey team secured its first victory of the season,
taking down Neumann University in Pennsylvania, 6-2, on Saturday,
November 1st. The Golden Eagles moved to 1-1 on the season following the
victory.
The Knights quickly jumped ahead, with Max Donohoe giving Neumann a 1-0
lead 51 seconds into the first period. Brockport would be quick to
respond, netting three goals in the first period.
Freshman Joshua Przystal would put on a show in the opening period, netting back-to-back goals 3:15 apart in the first to put Brockport ahead 2-1. Josh Grund provided assists on the Przystal goals, with Brody Seitz adding an assist on Brockport's second goal.
With less than four minutes left in the period, Aidan Taylor would light the lamp, thanks to assists from Jacob Gates and Nicholas Maria.
Between the second and third periods, Nick Reif
would put the game on ice for Brockport. Less than six minutes apart,
Reif would record a hat trick, taking advantage of two Brockport power
plays to put his squad ahead 6-1 in the final frame. Manny Sanchez would pick up two assists across the three Reif tallies.
Despite a late goal from the Knights, the Golden Eagles would hold on to cruise to a 6-2 win on the road.

Brockport loses opener to Stevenson
The Brockport Ice Hockey team came up short in Maryland against
Stevenson University in season opener action, 2-1, on Friday, October
31st.
The first period would prove to be a showcase for both goaltenders, with Brockport goalie Dax Easter
(11) and Stevenson goalie Ford DeLoss (8) combining for 19 saves.
Despite going on the power play early, the Mustang penalty kill would
help send the contest into the second period tied 0-0.
A Brockport two-minute penalty would lead to a Stevenson power play
goal, with Benson Blake putting the Mustangs up 1-0. The Golden Eagles
would threaten in the second period with multiple scoring chances, but
11 second-period saves from DeLoss would blank the Green and Gold in the
second period.
Searching for the equalizer in the third period, freshman Nick Reif would light the lamp 6:04 into the third period to tie the game at 1-1. Manny Sanchez and Livio Azevedo would provide the assist on Reif's first goal as a Golden Eagle.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Stevenson power play and Blake Benson
would strike again, connecting on the man-up to jump ahead at the 4:17
mark of the third period.
Despite late shots from Jacob Gates and Jacob Matthew Lee, the Green and Gold were unable to force overtime, falling 2-1 in Maryland.
Matthew Lee led all Brockport skaters with five shots, going a perfect 2-2 in the face-off circle.
Sacha Trudel, Kyle Kussmann, Spencer Flansburg, Nicholas Maria, and Dominic Chirico all recorded a blocked shot in the contest.
Dax Easter was excellent in defeat, making 33 stops to keep Brockport within striking distance throughout.

2025-2026 Season Preview
2024-25 Recap: The Golden Eagles finished the 2024-25 season 6-18-2
overall with a 4-16 mark in UCHC contests. The Green and Gold secured
conference wins on Alumni Night against Chatham (6-3) and Senior Night
against Nazareth (2-0), picking up wins at both Nazareth and Chatham in
conference play. Seven different Golden Eagles recorded 10+ points on
the year, including 2025-26 returners Jacob Gates, Spencer Flansburg, Aidan Taylor, and Victor Malzahn.
Earning the #6 seed entering the UCHC Tournament, the squad would fall
in the opening round at #3 seed Manhattanville, 4-1. Freshman Aidan Taylor
was named to the UCHC All-Rookie Team, totaling 11 points (4G, 7A)
across 22 games played, registering three multi-point games on the
season.
Key Returners: Despite losing their top two point scorers from 2024-25,
the Green and Gold return numerous key contributors from last season. Jacob Gates
returns to lead the Brockport defense, coming off a strong sophomore
season where he led the squad with 10 assists, adding two goals from the
defenseman's spot. Dynamic forwards Spencer Flansburg and Schuyler Flansburg
return for the 2025-26 season, serving as assistant captains and coming
off strong sophomore seasons. The brothers from Saratoga Springs, NY,
combined for 12 goals and nine assists last season. Landing on the UCHC
All-Rookie team as a freshman, Aidan Taylor
returns looking to build off a strong first season with Brockport.
Playing in 22 games, Taylor netted four goals with seven assists for 11
points on the season. Victor Malzahn
returns to the Brockport defense, blocking a team fourth-best 15 shots,
adding a strong 10 points from four goals and six assists. Dominic Chirico will serve as the captain of the 2025-26 Golden Eagles squad, appearing in 14 games with 10 blocked shots on the year.
Fresh Faces: The Golden Eagles welcome several new additions to the
2025-26 squad, with many poised to make an instant impact with the Green
and Gold. Brockport welcomes freshmen Ethan Seibert, Kyle Kussmann, Michael Kull, Nick Reif, Brody Seitz, Nicholas Maria, Jackson Faughnan, Matthew Lee. and Joshua Przystal.
Breakout Watch: Limited to just five games in 2024-25 due to injury, Brockport welcomes back Manny Sanchez
for the 2025-26 season. Across his first two seasons, Sanchez proved to
be a key contributor for the Golden Eagles, racking up 26 points (6G,
20A) in 49 games played with a game-winning goal. The Potsdam, NY native
looks to pick up where he left off in the 2023-24 season.
Between the Pipes: Brockport welcomes the return of goaltenders David Filak, Dax Easter, and Trevor Joule, all of whom received significant playing time in 2024-25. David Filak
returns as Brockport's most experienced goalie, starting nine games (15
appearances) with 275 saves and a team-best 3.29 GA/AVG. Filak's 90.8
save percentage led all Brockport goalies last season. Dax Easter
earned six starts (12 appearances) as a freshman last season, finishing
with 152 saves and an 86.9 save percentage. Despite only appearing in
one game, Trevor Joule
maximized his minutes, closing out a Brockport win over Chatham with 11
third-period saves. Joule was the lone Brockport goalie to not allow a
goal last season.
Special Events: The Golden Eagles will host numerous promotional nights,
beginning with Brockport's Home Opener and Reliant Scoreboard Ribbon
Cutting against Buffalo State on Friday, November 7th, at 7 pm.
Brockport welcomes Chatham to the Wegmans Ice Arena for Teddy Bear Toss
on Friday, November 21st at 7 pm. The Green and Gold will celebrate its
alumni against St. John Fisher for Alumni Night on Saturday, January
17th at 4 pm. January 31st will mark Senior Day for Brockport, as they
will welcome former conference foe Fredonia at 4 pm. The Willie Bee
Foundation Jersey Night will take place on Friday, February 6th, at 7 pm
against newly added UCHC member Albertus Magnus College. The Green and
Gold will close out play from the Wegmans Ice Arena against Nazareth on
Friday, February 13th, for Brockport's "Face Off Against Cancer" game.

The Central Canada Hockey League and the Navan Grads are pleased to announce defenseman Kyle Kussmann has committed to SUNY Brockport for the 2025-26 season. The 2004 born Erin, ON native played two season in the CCHL with the Grads most recently putting up 39 points in 44 games played.

Miller is Associate Head Coach
The SUNY Brockport Department of Athletics is proud to announce the promotion of Brendan Miller to Associate Head Coach. Miller joined the Brockport Ice Hockey Program in 2022-23 as an assistant coach and will enter the 2025-26 season in the new position.
Graduating from SUNY Geneseo in 2022 with a degree in Business Administration, Miller finished his four-year playing career with 54 points (21G, 33A) in 83 games, playing all but two games for the Knights from 2018 to 2022. Miller was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team in 2020, helping lead Geneseo to three straight conference crowns.
“I have really enjoyed my first few years at Brockport and getting to work with and learn under Coach Dickinson. I am excited about the opportunity to continue that further and to help build up the Brockport Ice Hockey Program”

Reif commits to Brockport
The New Hampshire Mountain Kings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Nick Reif has committed to play NCAA hockey for SUNY Brockport.
The 5’10 righty from Buffalo, New York, is staying in the Empire State to skate with the Golden Eagles. Reif is a second-year skater in the NAHL. This season he started with the Aberdeen Wings, lacing up in seven games. Following his time with the Central Division team, the ‘04 skater hit the ice in 18 games with the Rochester Jr. Americans. He tallied four goals and five assists during his time with the Jr. Americans. Reif returned to the New Hampshire roster in late January and played in 22 games. He found the back of the net four times while producing three assists. Two of his four goals were scored on the power play.
In his debut season in the NAHL, Reif played a full season with the Mountain Kings. He hit the ice in 57 games, scoring 12 goals while producing 19 assists.

Chase Nieuwendyk to join the Hall of Fame
SUNY Brockport has announced six former student-athletes as the newest members of its Athletics Hall of Fame. The Golden Eagles will honor the Class of 2025 at the Alumni Awards & Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony and Dinner on Friday, September 26, in the Seymour Union Ballroom as part of the University's Homecoming festivities. The ceremony begins at 6:30pm.
The 2025 induction class includes Chase Nieuwendyk '16.
The only two-time All-American in program history, Nieuwendyk earned Second Team honors in 2016 and Third Team honors in 2015.
A two-time SUNYAC All-Conference First Team selection and D3hockey.com All-Region honoree, Nieuwendyk ranks tied for eighth in career goals at Brockport (45) and also tallied 56 assists in 92 games.
In his senior season, he became just the fifth player in program history to lead the team in goals, assists, and points in a single year, ranking seventh nationally in scoring at 1.42 points per game.
He reached the 100-point milestone in his final collegiate weekend before playing three professional seasons in the SPHL and ECHL.

All-American Scholars
The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) has once again recognized varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2024-25 season with the announcement of the ninth annual “Krampade All-American Scholars.”
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for each semester, and had to appear in 40% of the team’s games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders. Schools also were required to be members of the AHCA.
The names of the 664 Division II-III men's ice hockey honorees were recently released.

Aidan Taylor makes All-Rookie Team
The United Collegiate Hockey Conference announced the 2024-25 All-Conference Awards on Wednesday, March 5th. Aidan Taylor represents the Golden Eagles as a member of the UCHC All-Rookie Team following his freshman season.
In his first season at Brockport, Aidan Taylor
totaled 11 points as a forward in the lineup on the ice. He had four
goals and seven assists in 22 total games played in his debut campaign
with the Green and Gold. Taylor registered three multi-point games on
the year.
The Golden Eagles finished the 2024-25 season 6-18-2 overall and 4-16 in
league play in year one with the UCHC. Their season came to an end with
a first-round loss to Manhattanville, 4-1, in the conference
tournament.

2024-2025 season comes to an end
The #6 seed Brockport ice hockey team fell in the opening round of the
UCHC Tournament at #3 seed Manhattanville, 4-1, on Wednesday, February
26th.
Manhattanville would take a 1-0 lead into the second period, with Ryan McKenna netting the lone score in the opening 20 minutes.
At the 7:01 mark of the second period, Manhattanville would double its advantage to 2-0 thanks to Lane Paddison's goal.
In desperate need of momentum, Spencer Flansburg would connect with a late goal to bring Brockport within a goal (2-1) entering the final period of action. Sacha Trudel and Spencer Flansburg would add assists on Brockport's goal.
A hot start for the Valients in the third period would sink the Golden
Eagles, scoring two goals in the first 2:11 of the period to go up 4-1.
The Golden Eagles would record a period-high 12 shots on goal in the
third, but William Billequey would make 12 saves to blank the Green and
Gold.
Chase Maxwell was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 10 of 15 draws for Brockport.
Jacob Gates and Mitchell Haight led Brockport with two blocked shots each.
The Golden Eagles finish the 2024-25 season 6-18-2 overall with a 4-16 mark in UCHC play.

Brockport wins regular season finale
The Brockport hockey team closed out the regular season with a 5-3 win over Chatham in Pittsburgh, PA, on Saturday, February 22nd. The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 6-17-2 with a 4-16 mark in UCHC contests.
The first period would prove to be all Chatham, with Michael Roby
lighting the lamp twice to send the Cougars into the second period up
2-0.
Chase Maxwell had the answer, scoring back-to-back goals less than eight minutes apart to tie the contest at 2-2 in the second period.
Just under three minutes later, Jacob Gates would pick up his third assist on Livio Azevedo's
goal, putting Brockport up 3-2 in the second. Chatham would add a tally
at the end of the second, tying the game up at 3-3 entering the third
period.
Mitchell Haight would net the game-winning goal in the third period, with the defensemen doing it himself to push Brockport ahead 4-3. Jacob Rodrigue would end the comeback bid, connecting on the empty net to help give Brockport to 5-3 victory.
Trevor Joule would come off the bench to secure the win, making 11 saves across a scoreless third period to lead Brockport to the win.
Michael Holland and Josh Higgins would lead Brockport with two blocked shots each.
Brockport falls to Chatham in OT
The Brockport ice hockey team fell in overtime at Chatham, 5-4, on Friday, February 21st. The Golden Eagles moved to 5-17-2 overall and 3-16 in UCHC play following the loss.
Victor Malzahn got Brockport off to a strong start, lighting the lamp off Mitchell Haight's feed to put Brockport up 1-0 at 6:25 in the first.
Chatham was quick to respond, netting two goals less than three minutes
removed from Malzahn's tally to go up 2-1. The Golden Eagles would get
the last laugh in the first, with Livio Azevedo finding Matt Anastasio to tie the contest at 2-2 entering the second.
The quick strike Cougars offense would strike again the second, burying two goals just 1:13 apart to jump ahead 4-2.
The Golden Eagles would connect on the powerplay with Schuyler Flansburg scoring on the man advantage to bring Brockport within a goal entering the third period. Chase Maxwell and Jacob Gates chipped in with assists on the powerplay goal.
In desperate need of an equalizer, Schuyler Flansburg would strike again, netting his 2nd of the night to send the contest into overtime at 4-4. Joseph Nikac and Andrew Haugh would provide assists on the game-tying tally.
Chatham's first shot on goal in overtime would serve as the winner, with Zach Conner securing the overtime win for the Cougars.
David Filak would finish with 40 saves on the night, making 16 saves in a scoreless third period for Chatham.
Michael Meredith celebrated his birthday with a solid showing in the faceoff circle, winning 7 of 12 draws.

Senior Night
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles recognized seniors Jacob Rodrigue and Jordan Rosenbaum and their contributions to Brockport Ice Hockey program
Brockport shutsout Naz
The Brockport ice hockey team earned a 2-0 win over Nazareth on Senior Day on Saturday, February 15th. The Golden Eagles improved to 5-16-2 overall and 3-15 in UCHC play.
At 4:27 in the opening period, Matt Anastasio got the party started with a strike from the blue line to put Brockport up 1-0. Joseph Nikac and Jacob Gates would add assists on the opening tally.
The Brockport defense would thrive in the first, holding the Golden Flyers to just five shots on goal, all saved by David Filak.
Early in the second period, Kaleb Miller would redirect Chase Maxwell's shot to put Brockport up 2-0 at 3:55 in the second.
Goalie David Filak would lead the Golden Eagles to victory, making 28 of his 33 saves between the second and third periods.
Despite handing the Golden Flyers seven powerplay chances, the Brockport
penalty kill would go a perfect 7 for 7, holding Nazareth to just 13
shots on goal.
Chase Maxwell (9 of 16) and Michael Meredith (10 of 16) led Brockport with strong performances in the faceoff circle.
On his senior day, Jacob Rodrigue led the Golden Eagles with two blocked shots.
Brockport falls to Nazareth in a Friday affair
The Brockport ice hockey team came up short in Friday's matchup at
Nazareth, 3-2, on February 14th. The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-17-2
overall and 2-15 in UCHC play.
Following a scoreless opening period, Brockport came out of the gates soaring in the second, with Chase Maxwell connecting on the powerplay at 0:45 to put Brockport up 1-0 early in the second period. Victor Malzahn and Jacob Gates would chip in with assists on the Maxwell PP goal.
Following a quick Nazareth response to tie the game at 1-1, Aidan Taylor and Mitchell Haight would find Matt Anastasio
to put Brockport back ahead 2-1 at 14:39 in the second period. The
Golden Flyers would get the final tally of the period, with Anthony
Quinlivan lighting the lamp to send the game into the third tied at 2-2.
At the 6:30 mark of the third, Nazareth would take its first lead of the
contest, thanks to Alex Erlain's tie-breaking tally to go up 3-2.
The Golden Eagles would find its share of chances in the third, including Victor Malzahn's chance with seven seconds remaining. Brockport would be unable to break through, suffering a 3-2 loss on the road.
Dax Easter would post a solid performance in the loss, saving 27 of the 30 shots he faced.
Sacha Trudel would shine in the faceoff circle, winning 14 of 20 draws (70%).

Brockport loses to Geneseo on the road
The Brockport ice hockey team dropped Saturday night's matchup with
Geneseo, 5-2 on Saturday, February 8th. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-15-2
and 2-14 in UCHC play following the loss.
The Knights jumped ahead early and often, scoring three goals in 2:16 in the opening period to go up 3-0.
Down 3-0 in the second period, Ben Saurbaugh would stop the bleeding, burying Joseph Nikac's
feed to cut the lead to 3-1. Exactly 8 minutes later, Robert Gatewood
would connect for his hat trick goal to enter the third up 4-1.
Despite a late goal from Mitchell Haight,
the Golden Eagles would be unable to find a rhythm in the final frame,
with Geneseo adding another tally to secure the 5-2 win.
David Filak left it all on the ice, making 44 saves a strong effort.
Brockport falls to Geneseo at home
The Brockport ice hockey team fell in Friday night's game with Geneseo, 7-2, on February 7th. The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-14-2 overall and 2-13 in UCHC contests.
The Knights would come out of gates rolling, going up 2-0 after just 4:51 of play in the opening period.
Joseph Nikac would halt the Geneseo momentum for the time being, lighting the lamp at 11:32 to bring Brockport within one.
Geneseo would respond quickly, with Robert Gatewood connecting with a
goal with less than three minutes left in the first to enter the second
up 3-1.
Following a Knights goal at 9:57, Mitchell Haight would bury a Joseph Nikac feed to enter the third period down 4-2.
Geneseo would close the contest strong, scoring the game's final three
goals. Brockport would be unable to answer, suffering a 7-2 defeat.
Joseph Nikac shined for Brockport, posting a multi-point outing with a goal and an assist on the day.
Schuyler Flansburg shined in the faceoff circle, winning 8 of 11 draws.
Cole Hudson would finish with 33 saves on the day, marking his sixth straight appearance with 33+ saves.

Cole Hudson: Goalie of the Week
On Monday, February 3rd, the Empire 8 and the United Collegiate Hockey Conference announced their selections for Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week. Cole Hudson swept this week's awards following two impressive performances against #2 Utica.
Entering Friday's home game against Utica, Hudson made 36 saves with just one goal allowed across 37:03 of game action.
Picking up the start at Utica on Saturday, Hudson provided another excellent performance. The junior from Tonawanda kept Brockport tight with the #2 team in the nation, making 49 saves with just two goals allowed.
Hudson has emerged as a top goalie for Brockport, leading the squad in saves (370), SV% (.911), and wins. Across his last five outings, Hudson has saved over 94% of the shots he's faced, allowing just 12 goals.

Brockport loses close one to #2 Utica
SUNY Brockport fell to Utica 2-1 on Saturday in Utica, N.Y. The Golden Eagles are now 4-13-2 overall and 2-12 in UCHC play.
SUNY Brockport and the Pioneers concluded the first period scoreless,
with the Pioneers heavily outshooting Brockport. Brockport's goalie, Cole Hudson,
successfully saved all attempts on goal, facing a total of 17 shots,
while Brockport took nine shots, all saved or blocked by the Pioneers'
defense. Brockport won nine out of 19 faceoffs and successfully killed a
two-minute penalty for boarding by Spencer Flansburg. Notably, this was the highest number of shots faced by Hudson in a period this season.
SUNY Brockport opened the scoring in the second period with Aidan Taylor's goal at 17:05, assisted by Matt Anastasio and Connor McAleer,
marking Taylor's fourth goal of the season. Despite having multiple
power play opportunities, Brockport was unable to capitalize, with Jordan Rosenbaum and Aidan Taylor
each missing shots during the man advantage. The Pioneers responded
with an unassisted goal from Jakob Breault at 12:36, leveling the score
at one each, as Brockport's goalie Cole Hudson
recorded numerous saves to keep the game tied despite a continuous
barrage of shots from the Pioneers. This goal was Breault's third
unassisted goal of the year, showcasing his individual skill.
In the third period, SUNY Brockport was unable to score against the
Pioneers, who secured a 2-1 victory. Despite Brockport's efforts,
including six shots on goal, the Pioneers' defense held strong with
their goalie, Ryan Piros, making key saves. Brockport did manage to win
three faceoffs, but the Pioneers controlled the majority of the faceoffs
with 15 wins in the period, contributing to their game-winning goal by
Shane Murphy at 14:24, assisted by Brian Scoville and Anthony Cafarelli.
Murphy's game-winning goal was his second of the season, highlighting
his knack for scoring in crucial moments.
The first period saw a strong defensive performance by Cole Hudson
in goal, making several key saves as the Pioneers attempted numerous
shots. SUNY Brockport's faceoff efforts were notable, with Schuyler Flansburg and Connor McAleer winning multiple draws to gain possession. Despite a two-minute penalty against Spencer Flansburg, the team successfully killed the power play, maintaining a scoreless tie at the end of the period.
The second period began with the Pioneers winning the initial faceoff, but SUNY Brockport's Aidan Taylor scored the first goal at 17:05 with assists from Matt Anastasio and Connor McAleer. Despite multiple faceoff wins by the Pioneers, Brockport's defense, particularly goalie Cole Hudson,
consistently blocked shots throughout the period. The Pioneers managed
to equalize the score at 12:36 with an unassisted goal by Jakob Breault,
and the period ended with both teams having scored one goal each.
The third period began with SUNY Brockport gaining initial control through a faceoff win by Schuyler Flansburg. Despite strong defensive efforts, including multiple blocked shots by Josh Grund and Nick Serafin,
the Pioneers managed to score a decisive goal at 14:24, increasing
their lead to 2-1. Brockport's attempts to level the score included
shots by Victor Malzahn and Joseph Nikac, but they were unable to find the back of the net, resulting in a 1-0 period score favoring the home team, the Pioneers.
Brockport falls to #2 Utica
The Brockport ice hockey team was defeated at home against #2 Utica, 7-1, on Friday, January 31st. The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-12-2 overall and 2-11 in UCHC play.
The Pioneers jumped ahead quickly, with Shane Murphy scoring the first
of four first-period goals for Utica. In the first period, Utica would
go a perfect 2-2 on the man advantage, with power-play goals coming from
Drake Morse and Johnny Mulera.
Following two more Utica goals to go up 6-0, Cole Hudson would enter the game in net. Hudson was excellent, making 36 saves in two periods with just one goal allowed.
At the end of the second period, Chase Maxwell would bury Matt Anastasio's rebound to cut the lead to 7-1. Maxwell's tally would serve as the final goal of the contest.
Brockport would earn a powerplay chance in the third, but the Golden Eagles were unable to gain traction, falling 7-1.

Ribbon cutting for team room
Prior to the start of Saturday’s game, the Golden Eagles celebrated the ribbon cutting for the Confer Plastics Team Room. This upgraded space now contains new lockers, new branded flooring and other needed resources that will help strengthen our hockey program, bolster our recruitment efforts, and improve the overall experience of our student-athletes.
