The unbeaten SUNY Brockport men's hockey team continues to climb the
ranks in the receiving votes category of the latest USCHO.com Division
III National Poll released by the highly popular college hockey website
on Monday afternoon. Brockport is the first ranked team in the
receiving votes category and 16th overall with 24 total votes.
The Golden Eagles (5-0, 3-0) have tied the program-record for
consecutive wins to start a season, a record which was originally set
back in 1980. Bport is one of three SUNYAC programs either ranked or
receiving votes in the poll, alongside nationally ranked No. 1 Geneseo
and Oswego (RV).
Brockport is currently tied for seventh with Geneseo in the nation in
the PairWise Rankings out of 85 teams in Division III hockey. The
PairWise Ranking is a system which attempts to mimic the method used by
the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA
Division III hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these
criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and
the RPI.
Brockport swept the SUNYAC Player of the Week honors this week after
going 2-0 on its home ice against Potsdam and Plattsburgh Friday and
Saturday. The Golden Eagles defeated Potsdam 3-0 on Friday night,
before turning around and defeating visiting Plattsburgh 7-3 on
Saturday. Senior captain Ryan Romeo was named the SUNYAC Player of the Week, Andrew Harley was named the Rookie of the Week and Nolan Egbert was named the Goalie of the Week.
Romeo leads the SUNYAC with nine points this season on two goals and seven assists, while Harley and Mitchell Parsons
are tied for second with eight points. Brockport ranks second in the
SUNYAC with 24 total goals. 12 players have atleast three or more
points this season.
Egbert is currently 4-0 and ranks second in the league with a 1.25 goals
against average. He has 96 total saves, two shutouts and a .950 save
percentage in four starts for the Golden Eagles.
