The SUNYAC has released its 2022-23 men's ice hockey preseason poll as voted on by the conference coaches. Geneseo, the 2021 SUNYAC champion, sits at the top of the poll.
The 2022-23 season will kick off with non-conference games on October 28. The first round of the SUNYAC men's ice hockey championship is set for February 22.

The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team will unveil its new Wall of Honor
during the Homecoming Weekend on October 8 at 5:15 p.m. in the Wegmans
Ice Arena on Campus.
The Wall of Honor unveiling will be part of an exciting weekend for
Brockport Hockey. Brockport hockey great Brian Cavanaugh '76 will be
inducted into the Brockport Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday night. On
Saturday, Hockey Alumni and Friends will host an Open Skate starting at
4pm, followed by the Hockey Wall of Honor unveiling. Following the
unveiling, Brockport will host a hockey alumni & friends Happy
Hour.

The SUNY Brockport Ice Hockey Wall of Honor honors former Golden Eagle
student-athletes, coaches, teams and special contributors whose
accomplishments have brought prestige and honor to the Ice Hockey
Program. All nominees to the Wall of Honor must be outstanding
individuals with fine leadership qualities and must be held in high
esteem by their colleagues, coaches, and athletes.
Must have been a SUNY Brockport student-athlete for two years
• Athletes are not eligible for nomination until five years after their
final season of competition. Must uphold the ideals and philosophies of
Brockport Athletics while striving to serve the best interest of
intercollegiate athletics. While winning championships might be a
factor, the primary concern is a person's effect upon the
student-athletes and fellow coaches he/she has influenced.
• The individual must possess such qualities as sportsmanship, character, and integrity.

Homecoming Weekend is October 7-8, and among the events will be a Brockport Ice Hockey Reunion and Celebration. A few of the highlights:
SUNY Brockport’s ice rink is now known as the Wegmans Ice Arena, following a major gift made by Wegmans Food Markets. The ice arena will undergo branding transformations to reflect the name change. The gift is slated to support the men’s ice hockey program, the facility, and students.
A generous gift from Confer Plastics helped plans of a renovated locker room glide past the goal line. The updated club room will include new lockers, locker naming plates, and a new floor.
Golden Eagle hockey legends will be honored going forward with a Wall of Honor in Wegmans Ice Arena. It will be unveiled during Homecoming and Family Weekend on Saturday, October 8 at 5:15 p.m.

Nick Serafin has committed to Brockport. The 6'1" forward spent the past two seasons with the Valley Junior Warriors. In 2020-2021, he had a 7-9-16 line in 37 games. In 40 games this past season he had a 6-16-22 line.
Ryan Romeo
was named the SUNY Brockport Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year
during a senior athlete ceremony hosted between games of Saturday's
baseball double header at the Clark V. Whited Complex.
Romeo put together arguably the best season for a Brockport hockey
player in program history. He was named a 2021-22 CCM Hockey/AHCH Div.
II-III All-American. Romeo, a Sid Watson Award finalist, is the first
player in program-history to earn AHCA All-American First Team East
honors. Romeo was just the fourth All-American selection in program
history.
Earlier this year, Romeo was named the SUNYAC Herb Hammond Player of the
Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. Romeo joined James Cody as
the only two players in program-history to be named a finalist for the
Sid Watson (Division III Hockey National Player of the Year).
Romeo made his third straight all-conference appearance, including his
second straight first-team selection. He is the third (two of his own)
Brockport selection to the All-Conference first team dating back to 2016
when Chase Nieuwendyk was named a first team forward. The first team
selection marks the 10th time in program history that a Brockport player
has been picked to the SUNYAC's top all-conference team.
His 37 points this season are the most for a Golden Eagle since
Nieuwendyk registered 37 points back in 2016. His 25 assists this
season are the most for a Golden Eagle since Ian Finnerty registered 25
assists back in 2012. His 25 assists this season tied for seventh on the
program's all-time single season list. He ranks second nationally among
defenders in total points and 16th nationally among all skaters. Over
the course of his career at Brockport he has played in 97 career games,
and he has 87 total points on 28 goals and 59 assists.
Following Brockport's season, Romeo signed a pro contract with the
Trois-Rivieres Lions of the ECHL, where he recently recorded his first
professional goal.

Brockport hockey's Ryan Romeo
will be honored with the Rich Funke Jr. College Male Award at the
Rochester Press-Radio Club's Celebration of Champions at the Rochester
Red Wings game at Frontier Field on June 1. Romeo was nominated for the
award by Brockport's Warren Kozireski, General Manager at WBSU, 89.1 the
Point.

Sponsored by the American Hockey Coaches Association, the Sid Watson
Award honors the memory of former Bowdoin College head coach and
athletic director Sid Watson. A three-time AHCA Coach of the Year,
Watson served Bowdoin for more than 30 years, winning 326 games in 24
seasons as head coach.
The recipient of this year's Sid Watson Award will be announced on Thursday, March 24.
The New Jersey 87’s are proud to announce
that Matt Anastasio and Tobin Winslow have committed to play NCAA
Division III hockey at SUNY Brockport for the 2022-2023 season.
Anastasio is a 20-year-old forward from North Babylon, New York and Winslow is a 21-year-old defenseman from Jacksonville, Florida. Both players joined the 87’s midway through the 2021-22 season and made an immediate impact with the EHL team. Anastasio recorded 35 points (16g, 19a) in 31 games in the regular season, and Winslow notched 12 points (4g, 8a) in 24 games.
Head coach Adam Houli spoke about Anastasio and Winslow committing to Brockport. “They’re both great young men and it’s been a pleasure to have them on our program when they got here. For both to go to coach (Brian) Dickinson and the Brockport team, they’re getting two phenomenal hockey players and two phenomenal human beings. To be honest it’s a really good match for them because coach Brian has done a great job there and he’s getting two impact players now,” he said.
SUNY Brockport is a Division III program located in Brockport, New York. Competing in the State University of New York Athletic Conference, the Golden Eagles are led by head coach Brian Dickinson.
Anastasio, who was the first of the duo to join the 87’s, spoke about committing to Brockport and what the accomplishment means to him.
“It feels really good overall, honestly, I’m still kind of soaking it in. Since the first time I’ve talked to (coach) Brian, I had a good connection with him and going up to see the school and everything, it just really felt like a good fit. Gelled a little bit with some of the guys on the team and I’m real excited to head there next year,” Anastasio said.
Winslow, who made his 87’s debut just a few games after Anastasio, also talked about the prospect of playing collegiate hockey. “It’s awesome, I’ve played hockey my whole life working to play NCAA hockey, and it’s finally there so it feels really good,” Winslow said.
Prior to joining the 87’s, Anastasio and Winslow started the 2021-22 season with the Twin City Thunder of the NCDC and were roommates. After Anastasio joined the 87’s, Winslow said he was convinced to reunite with him in New Jersey. According to the 21-year-old defenseman, the move was worth it.
“It’s honestly been great in each different environment,” Winslow said. “He’s just been a positive guy, fun to be around, easy to chat with and it’s been nice living with him too. I mean, sometimes he beats me in NHL 22 too much, but it happens.”
For Anastasio, having a familiar face on the team meant even better results on the ice.
“It’s really special, we’ve grown really close over the year, and even had some nice chemistry together, especially on the power play that we’ve been working on together throughout the season. But it’s gone really smoothly and we just became really close as players and off the ice as well,” he said.
Shortly after joining the 87’s, Anastasio went on a 10-game point streak and helped jumpstart an offense that was struggling early in the season, turning an eight-game losing streak into a 15-game winning streak. He spoke about his time in New Jersey and how his offensive production surged with the team. “(Adam) Houli and the 87’s have really given me the opportunity to get better, I get plenty of work on the ice day in and day out. The way my line has clicked since we were put together, it’s really helped me excel overall as a player in all aspects of the game,” he said.
Though Winslow’s offensive numbers were not as flashy as Anastasio’s, the Florida native quickly established himself as one of the top two-way defensemen on the team. He credited the coaching staff for preparing him for the collegiate level.
“Coach Houli has been really great with me, working on the specifics of my game. A lot of things that he’s helped me with are things like staying between the dots, making sure you’re always supporting your defense partner, being behind him a lot more, working hard to get back and just these little things that have helped me so much in my growth as a hockey player,” Winslow said.
Houli spoke about their development with the team and why they became important players for the team in the regular season and the upcoming postseason.
“They came here, we cared about them and we knew what we could get out of them and wanted to work with them, and I think they felt that,” Houli said. “They felt confident in their game finally and they had a staff that was willing to work with them and give them every opportunity, and then you could see what they can be as a player. That’s been the fun part from our side is to continue to develop them and get them to the level that they’re going to be ready to play at Brockport next fall.”
The 87’s would like to congratulate Matt and Tobin along with their families, as they get ready to advance their hockey careers to the Division III collegiate level.

Beauvais started the 2021-22 season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks where he played eight games. Opting to come home to the Little Flyers in the middle of October to rejoin his teammates, Beauvais has not disappointed. In 38 regular season games, Beauvais lit the lamp 24 times and added 27 assists to finish the season with 51 points. Four of Beauvais 24 goals were game winners including two in the final week of the regular season to clinch the South Division for the Little Flyers. Alongside Vinny Nicosia and Connor MacDonell, the “Michigan” line as they are referred to is one of the most potent lines in the entire EHL. Beauvais was selected as an EHL All-Star earlier in the season and recently received EHL South Division First Team Honors at the League’s yearly award show.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced
the 2022 SUNYAC All-Tournament team on Saturday night following the
conclusion of the Championship game which saw SUNY Geneseo defeat Oswego
State 6-1.

of SUNY Brockport was named a member of the SUNYAC All-Tournament team
as the rookie from Sugar Hill, Georgia scored a total of six points in
the first two rounds of the tournament. Against Plattsburgh State in the
first round of the tournament, Galloway recorded a hat trick along with
two assists for a total of five points in one playoff game, a program
record.
The team would go on to defeat Plattsburgh by a thrilling overtime
victory of 7-6 to advance to the semi-final game of the tournament at
SUNY Geneseo against the Knights. Galloway would go on to record one
assist, bringing his points total up to six in the tournament as the
team would eventually fall to SUNY Geneseo by a score of 3-1 to conclude
the Golden Eagles season.
With his six points in the tournament, Galloway combined for a season
total of 31 points made up of 11 goals and 20 assists and surpassed the
30 points mark for a single season. The other two skaters on the team
who also surpassed 30 or more points this season were rookie and third
team All-SUNYAC selection Andrew Harley
with 32 points on a team leading 15 goals and 17 assists and the SUNYAC
First-Team, SUNYAC Herb Hammond and SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year
graduate student Ryan Romeo
who recorded 12 goals and a team high 25 assists for 37 points. This is
the first time in approximately ten or more years that three skaters
for the Golden Eagles have recorded 30+ points in one season.
