The Brockport hockey team was defeated in their annual Teddy Bear Toss game against Nazareth, 4-0, on Friday, December 6th. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-7-2 overall and 0-7 in UCHC play following the loss.
Despite Brockport holding a 14-11 edge in the shots battle, the Golden
Flyers would strike twice in the final 1:24 of the first to go up 2-0.
Nazareth would double its advantage in the second period, scoring two
goals in 1:15 to jump out in front 4-0 at 9:16 in the second. Nate Mann
would strike for back-to-back tallies for the Golden Flyers.
A goalie change for Brockport would bring some momentum, with David Filak making 10 stops in relief across 30 minutes of action.
The Golden Eagles would win the shots battle again in the third (4-3)
but were unable to find the back of the net as Nazareth would earn the
4-0 win.
Brockport was excellent in the faceoff circle, winning 32 of 54 draws, led by Michael Meredith winning 8 of 9 draws.
Both teams would finish with 26 shots, with five Golden Eagles posting three shots on the day.
The two teams struggled on the man advantage, going a combined 1/7 on the powerplay.
Following the final horn, the Teddy Bear Toss began as all the fans
threw their stuffed animals on to the ice to celebrate Brockport's 5th
Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee then
collected each stuffed animal so they can all be donated to local
families as gifts for the holidays.
