The Golden Eagles could not overcome an early 4-0 deficit, falling to #3
ranked Utica in their home opener, 5-1, on Saturday, November 16th. The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-4-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play following the loss.
The Pioneers set the tone from the get-go, netting four unanswered goals
to go into the second period up 4-0. Eric Vitale (5:07), Drake Morse
(10:47), Shane Murphy (12:20), and Jakob Breault (17:05) all lit the
lamp for Utica.
In the second period, the strong Brockport power play would get the Golden Eagles on the board. Aidan Taylor found paydirt on the man advantage, with Manny Sanchez and Victor Malzahn chipping in with assists at the 15:12 mark of the second.
John Mulera of Utica would respond in less than three minutes at the
18:10 mark of the second, giving the Pioneers a 5-1 lead entering the
third.
Much like the second period, the third proved to be an even affair, with
neither team finding the back of the net. The shots battle was down the
middle in the period, with Utica holding an 8-6 edge.
Cole Hudson started between the pipes for Brockport, totaling 30 saves on the day across 60 minutes of action.
Chase Maxwell led Brockport in the faceoff circle, winning 10 of 19 draws.
Kaleb Miller led Brockport in the shots department, launching three shots on goal.
Following a rough first period, Brockport rebounded to hold Utica to just one goal in the final 40 minutes.
