Brockport falls to Elmira in OT

 The Brockport hockey team dropped a closely contested non-conference matchup with Elmira, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday, January 11th. Brockport moved to 2-7-3 on the season following the overtime loss.
 
Both goaltenders would set the tone from the get-go, each making 10 stops in the first period. Elmira would breakthrough first, with Ryan Reifler finding the back of the net at 16:38 to send the Soaring Eagles into the second period up 1-0.
 
The Golden Eagles would quickly respond in the second, with Joseph Nikac lighting the lamp at 5:52 to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Forty-two seconds later, Mitchell Haight would strike on the powerplay against his former team, giving Brockport a 2-1 edge.  
 
The Soaring Eagles powerplay would get the last laugh, with Ryan Reifler scoring his second of the day to tie the contest at 2-2 going into the third.
 
Elmira's powerplay would go 2-2 on the day, connecting again at the 7:09 mark of the third to put Elmira back ahead 3-2.
 
In need of a tying goal, Jordan Rosenbaum would rise to the occasion, netting what would serve as the game-tying goal at 10:37 to send the contest into overtime. Josh Grund and Joseph Nikac would provide assists on Brockport's third goal.
 
The first overtime shot would serve as the game-winner, with Carter Wisely scoring the golden goal to give Elmira a 4-3 overtime win.  
 
Joseph Nikac would lead the way for Brockport, picking up two points (1G, 1A) with a team-best +2 rating.
 
Schuyler Flansburg led all skaters with four blocked shots in a strong defensive effort.
 
David Filak was strong in defeat, making 36 saves, including 13 in the third period.
 
Chase Maxwell was excellent in the faceoff circle, winning five of seven draws.
