Brockport beats Chatham

The SUNY Brockport hockey team defeated the Chatham Cougars by a score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at home. The team improves to 3-9-2 on the season with a 2-8 record in UCHC play.

Goals came from six contributors tonight with Josh Grund, Schuyler Flansburg, Ben Saurbaugh, Joseph Nikac, Jordan Rosenbaum, and Aidan Taylor all finding the back of the net.

Michael Meredith won a team-high12 of 19 faceoffs.

Cole Hudson was excellent in net, making 37 saves on 40 shots for a .925 save percentage.

It was an action packed first period of play with both teams notching two goals apiece.

Chatham's Tyler Samodral got the Cougars on the board first with a wrist shot from close range with nobody to beat but the goalie.

The Chatham lead would be short lived as Brockport responded just three minutes later as Nikac knotted the game at one, scoring off a rebound.

Both teams would score another goal in the following two minutes. After Chatham retook the lead, Brockport's Taylor would bring the game back to a tie.

The Golden Eagles kept applying pressure in the second frame, adding two more goals to bring the score to 4-2.

Flansburg scored his fifth goal of the season with a perfectly placed shot in the top right corner five minutes into the period. Grund would add Brockport's second goal of the frame with a shot from the left wing.

Later in the period, Brockport would fend off a 5-3 span with several great saves from Cole Hudson and some gritty defensive play.

Rosenbaum gave Brockport some insurance as he deflected a shot to score the team's fifth goal of the night.

Chatham would later add a goal amidst a power-play to keep their hopes alive. The Cougar's threatened in the closing minutes during 6-on-4 action but Brockport held strong and Saurbaugh would score on an empty-netter to bring the score to its 6-3 final.
