The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated at nationally ranked Utica,
5-2, on Saturday, November 15th. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-5 overall
and 0-2 in UCHC play following the conference loss.
David Filak
would make the most of a busy evening, stopping 48 of the 53 shots he
faced and setting a new career high for single-game saves.
The #10-ranked Pioneers displayed relentless pressure throughout,
attempting 83 shots, with 53 shots reaching the net. Despite recording
15 shots on goal in the opening period, 14 David Filak saves would keep Brockport within a goal entering the second period.
Utica would double its advantage in a hurry, with John Gutt scoring his
second goal of the contest just 2:29 into the second period. In
desperate need of an equalizer, Josh Grund would break through for the Green and Gold. Sacha Trudel would provide the assist for the Grund goal, cutting Utica's lead in half (2-1).
The Pioneers would be quick to respond, scoring just 37 seconds later to
jump ahead 3-1, adding another goal with 36 seconds left in the period
to take a 4-1 lead into the third period. Utica would post a goal in the
first 2:30 of each period, with Nick Ahern connecting for a tally to
open the third period.
Down 5-1 in the third, Manny Sanchez
would net an unassisted goal for his first of the season, cutting the
Utica lead to 5-2 with under 13 minutes remaining. Despite late scoring
chances from Kaleb Miller, Connor McAleer, Ethan Seibert, and Matthew Lee, Brockport would be unable to build off the Sanchez goal.
Josh Grund (G) and Joshua Przystal led the Golden Eagles with three shots on goal each.
Nine different Golden Eagles would record a blocked shot, with Matthew Lee leading the pack with two.
Josh Grund, Jacob Gates, and Livio Azevedo led the squad with a +1 rating in the contest.
