The Brockport hockey team overcame a 3-1 third-period deficit to defeat Fredonia in overtime, 4-3, on Friday, January 10th. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-7-2 on the season following the non-conference win.
Despite outshooting Fredonia 17-11, the Blue Devils would connect for two goals in the first period to enter the second up 2-0.
The Brockport power play would light the lamp, with Schuyler Flansburg
opening the Golden Eagle scoring to cut the lead to 2-1. With less than
two minutes remaining in the second, Antoine St. Onge would put
Fredonia up 3-1 entering the third period.
Following 16 scoreless minutes in the third, Schuyler Flansburg would strike again to bring the Golden Eagles within one. Spencer Flansburg (2nd assist) and Livio Azevedo would chip in with assists.
Nearing the final minute, Victor Malzahn would send the game into overtime at 18:52 in the third. Schuyler Flansburg (3 points) and Josh Grund would assist in the game-tying goal.
Cole Hudson
would keep Brockport alive in overtime, making four game-saving stops
in the period. Hudson would pick up the win with 35 saves to just three
goals allowed.
In search of the golden goal, Kaleb Miller would walk it for the Golden Eagles 3:22 into overtime. Victor Malzahn would assist on the game-winning goal for his second point of the day.
Livio Azevedo would lead all skaters with a +3 rating on the day.
Spencer (2-3) and Schuyler Flansburg
(7-10) combined for a strong 9-13 in the faceoff circle. The brothers
would combine for five points on the day to lead Brockport to the 4-3
win.
