#1 Hobart beats Brockport

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated on home ice, 8-1, against #1-ranked Hobart College on Saturday, December 6th. Brockport fell to 4-8 on the season following the non-conference loss. 

The defending national champions showcased their scoring prowess early, netting the first four goals of the contest in the first period. Hobart capitalized on Brockport miscues, scoring three power-play goals in the first 20 minutes. 

Needing a spark down 4-0, Sacha Trudel would get the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard. Trudel would light the lamp at the 17:43 mark of the second period, thanks in part to a Brody Seitz assist. 

Despite cutting the Hobart lead to 4-1 entering the third, the top-ranked team in the country would net the contest's final four goals. Kaleb Miller, Joshua Przystal, and Livio Azevedo would generate scoring chances late, but the Golden Eagles would be unable to break through. 

Kaleb Miller, Sacha Trudel, and Brody Seitz were all productive for Brockport, finishing with a +1 rating.

Nicholas Maria led all Golden Eagles with three shots on the evening. 

David Filak picked up the start for Brockport, making 33 saves across 46:47 of game action.

Schuyler Flansburg was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 7 of 13 draws. 

Brockpoirt has big win against Elmira

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team rolled to a 6-3 victory over Elmira College on Friday, December 5th. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in UCHC play after the win.

The Soaring Eagles would strike first, with Owen Halloran scoring the first of his two goals at the 7:38 mark of the period. 

The Golden Eagles would respond in a big way, scoring back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead. Great puck movement from Spencer Flansburg and Matthew Lee would lead to a Schuyler Flansburg goal at 10:53. Michael Kull would strike less than five minutes later, assisted by Nick Reif and Joshua Pryzstal at the 15:10 mark of the first period.

Elmira snatched momentum entering the second period, scoring with less than four seconds left to tie the contest at 2-2.

The Soaring Eagles would threaten in the second period, but 16 David Filak saves would keep the home team scoreless in the second period. Brockport would create a flurry of chances late, but the score would stay at 2-2 entering the final frame. 

In the final 20 minutes, Brockport would waste no time jumping back in front. Nicholas Maria would light the lamp 2:01 into the third period, with Kaleb Miller and Sacha Trudel providing the assists.

Josh Grund would give the Green and Gold a huge insurance goal, with Livio Azevedo providing the setup at 8:21. Up by two goals with less than three minutes left, Nick Reif would secure the empty net goal and a victory for Brockport.

Despite a late Elmira surge, Joshua Przystal would net Brockport's second empty net of the contest to give Brockport the crucial conference win.

Three different Golden Eagles recorded two points, with 12 Brockport skaters finishing with a point or better. Spencer Flansburg (2A), Michael Kull (1G, 1A), and Nick Reif (1G, 1A) led the scoring charge for Brockport. 

David Filak (W, 3-2) provided an excellent effort for Brockport, making 40 saves in a busy evening. 

This weekend in Brockport hockey

The Brockport Ice Hockey team will head to Elmira for UCHC play on Friday, December 5th at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles will then host the defending national champions, #1-ranked Hobart, on Saturday, December 6th at 7 PM.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles defeated Lebanon Valley College from Castleton University, 2-1, on Saturday, November 29th. Brockport improved to 3-7 overall following the win.

With less than six minutes remaining in the first period,  Livio Azevedo buried an Andrew Haugh feed to put Brockport ahead 1-0 at the 14:07 mark. 

Nicholas Maria would put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-0 with less than seven minutes remaining, thanks in part to an assist from Josh Grund.

Joshua Przystal led all Golden Eagles with two blocked shots, adding seven wins in the face-off circle.

Nick Reif led the shots effort for Brockport, launching eight shots on the afternoon. 

Rookie Spotlight: Playing in eight games to begin the season, freshman Nick Reif has been excellent offensively for the Green and Gold. Reif has connected for a team-high five goals, tied for the fifth most in the UCHC. Since beginning the season with four goals in his first two games, Reif has posted a point or better in three of his last four outings. 

Between the Pipes: With David Filak, Dax Easter, and Trevor Joule all earning time in net for Brockport, the Golden Eagles' goaltenders have ranked toward the top of the UCHC to begin the season. The Green and Gold lead the conference in total saves (319) and rank second in saves per game (31.9). David Filak holds a UCHC third-best 32.75 saves per contest.

Scouting Elmira: The Soaring Eagles hold a 3-6 overall record and a 1-1 record in UCHC play, coming off a 7-3 loss at home against Wilkes. The Golden Eagles will look to snap a five-game losing streak in the head-to-head series.  

Scouting Hobart: The defending NCAA Champions have rolled to an 8-0 start, defeating SUNY Canton 4-0 last Saturday in SUNYAC play. Saturday's matchup will mark the first since the 2023-24 season, with Brockport looking to collect its second-ranked victory of the season.

The Brockport Ice Hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley College, 2-1, on Saturday, November 29th. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-7 on the season following the non-conference victory.

Dax Easter (W, 3-2) continued his strong start to the season, earning the win and making 24 saves on the afternoon. Easter has led the Golden Eagles to victories in back-to-back starts.

Brockport controlled the pace of the contest, outshooting Lebanon Valley 40-25 in the contest, beginning with a 17-10 edge in the opening period.

With less than six minutes remaining in the first period, Livio Azevedo would bury an Andrew Haugh feed to put Brockport ahead 1-0 at the 14:07 mark.

Following a defensive second period that kept both teams off the scoreboard, Brockport would double its advantage in the third period. Nicholas Maria would put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-0 with less than seven minutes remaining, thanks in part to an assist from Josh Grund.

Despite a late Lebanon Valley goal to cut he lead to 2-1, Easter would make a clutch save at the buzzer to secure the non-conference win for the Green and Gold.

Brockport falls to St. John Fisher

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team came up short against St. John Fisher, 4-2, on Friday, November 28th. The Golden Eagles fell to 2-7 on the season following the non-conference loss.

Brockport wasted no time recording the game's opening goal, taking a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the opening period. Nick Reif continued his excellent freshman season, scoring his team-leading fifth goal 1:54 into the first to put the Golden Eagles ahead early.

The Cardinals would net the equalizer less than seven minutes later, seeing Kenneth Brodie tie the contest at 1-1 with 11:30 left in the period. Despite creating several scoring chances, 11 first-period saves from Trevor Joule would keep Brockport tied entering the second period.

Both teams would trade scoring opportunities across the first 11 minutes of the second, seeing the Cardinals jump ahead 2-1 7:35 into the period. Needing a spark with less than a minute left in the period, Aidan Taylor would change the momentum. Kyle Kussmann would provide the assist for Taylor's second goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2 entering the final frame.    

Despite scoring chances from Victor Malzahn, Ethan Seibert, Brody Seitz, and Michael Kull, the Cardinals would record the final two goals of the contest. A power play and an empty net goal would secure the 4-2 win for St. John Fisher. 

The Golden Eagles were effective in the face-off circle, winning 39 of 58 draws. Sacha Trudel (12-3), Joshua Przstal (9-3), and Brody Seitz (5-1) were excellent on face-offs for Brockport.

Jackson Faughnan led the Golden Eagles with two blocked shots, adding two faceoff wins.

Aidan Taylor led the Golden Eagles with four shots, finishing with a +1 rating and lighting the lamp in back-to-back games.

Trevor Joule picked up the start between the pipes for Brockport, making 32 saves on 35 shots faced.

Brockport beats #15 Chatham

The Brockport Ice Hockey team secured a signature conference win, downing nationally ranked Chatham University, 2-1, on Saturday, November 22nd. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-6 on the season, securing their first UCHC win of the year.

The Golden Eagles jumped ahead in a hurry, with Josh Grund providing the assist to Kaleb Miller's opening tally just 3:10 into the opening period. Brockport would stay on the attack, creating a plethora of scoring chances in the first. Cameron Kuntar of Chatham would make 14 first-period saves to keep the Brockport lead at 1-0 entering the second period.

A physical second period would stall both offenses, with the Golden Eagles taking a 1-0 edge into the third period. Kyle Kussmann, Michael Kull, Jacob Gates, Dominic Chirico, and others would provide scoring chances, but the Golden Eagles would be unable to build on their lead.      

In the third period, the Golden Eagles would capitalize on a Chatham penalty, lighting the lamp on the power play. Excellent puck movement from Matthew Lee and Nick Reif would lead to Aidan Taylor's man-up goal, putting Brockport ahead 2-0 with less than 10 minutes to go. 

Despite a late Cougar's goal to jump within one, Filak and the Brockport defense would come through down the stretch. Filak would make 12 third-period saves, with Jackson Faughnan providing a blocked shot with less than five seconds left to secure the victory.

Andrew Haugh led the Green and Gold in blocked shots once again, stopping a team-high three shots. 

Sacha Trudel (8-13) and Manny Sanchez (11-17) led the way in the face-off circle, winning over 55% of their face-offs.  

David Filak (W, 2-2) was strong throughout for Brockport, allowing just one goal with 25 saves on the afternoon. 

Brockport loses to #15 Chatham in OT

The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated in overtime, 5-4, against #15 Chatham in the Teddy Bear Toss game on Friday, November 21st. The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-6 on the season and 0-2-0-0-1 in UCHC play following the loss, picking up a point in the conference standings.

The Teddy Bears would hit the ice in a hurry, with Michael Kull finding Kyle Kussmann for the game's opening goal 11:10 into the opening period. The celebration would be short-lived, as Kyle Cyprian would connect for the Cougars 49 seconds later to tie the contest at 1-1.

Despite a plethora of Brockport scoring chances in the second period, 12 Nikolas Trakakis saves would keep the contest tied entering the third period.

Business would pick up for both offenses in the final period of regulation, seeing both teams score three goals each. Chatham would jump in front 2-1 just 4:07 into the third period before three unanswered Brockport goals.

Just over three minutes later, freshman Brody Seitz would light the lamp on the power play, thanks to an assist from Nick Reif to tie the contest at 2-2.

The Green and Gold offense would continue to produce, seeing Schuyler Flansburg capitalize on a loose puck 11:24 into the third to give Brockport its second lead of the contest (3-2). Brockport's leading point scorer, Manny Sanchez, would double the lead just 35 seconds later, scoring his first of the year to give Brockport a two-goal lead with 7:59 left.

The Cougars would rally back, capitalizing on an untimely Brockport penalty with Nick Cyprian scoring his second of the game to bring Chatham within a goal (4-3). 

Michael Roby would take over the contest for the Cougars, completing his hat-trick with the game-tying goal with 38 seconds left in regulation, and the overtime dagger to will the #15 team in the nation to an overtime win.

Andrew Haugh was strong in the Brockport defensive zone, blocking a game-high three shots in an excellent effort.

Dax Easter picked up the start for Brockport, making 26 saves on 32 shots faced. Brockport would finish the evening with a 40-31 shot advantage.

The annual teddy bear toss

The Ice Hockey team will host #15-ranked Chatham for a pair of UCHC contests, beginning with Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, November 21st at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles will then host Chatham on Saturday, November 22nd, at 3 PM. 

Teddy Bear Toss: Brockport men's hockey team is set to host its sixth annual Teddy Bear Toss as the Golden Eagles take on Chatham University Friday night at the Wegmans Ice Arena (7 pm).  Fans who bring a new stuffed animal to the game will receive free admission. After Brockport scores its first goal, fans can throw their stuffed animals onto the ice for collection and distribution to local families in need during the holiday season. With the help of Brockport's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Golden Eagles have collected over 2,000 stuffed animals for local children since its inception six years ago.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles fell at nationally-ranked Utica University, 5-2, on Saturday, November 15th. Brockport dropped to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in UCHC play following the loss. 

Josh Grund (G) and Joshua Przystal led the Golden Eagles with three shots on goal each. Manny Sanchez added a goal, his first of the season, increasing his team leading point total (6). 

Nine different Golden Eagles would record a blocked shot, with Matthew Lee leading the pack with two. 

Josh Grund, Jacob Gates, and Livio Azevedo led the squad with a +1 rating in the contest. 

Positive Play: Despite holding a -9 goal differential as a squad, four Golden Eagles have a positive +/- through five games. Jacob Gates has provided excellent play from the defenseman spot, leading the squad with a +2 rating, adding a goal and an assist on the season. Andrew Haugh has done much of the same on the Brockport defense, matching Gates' team-leading +2 rating with an assist on the season. The freshman duo of Matthew Lee (G, A) and Brody Seitz (2A) has also been very productive, each holding a +1 rating for the Green and Gold.

Blocking Pucks: The Golden Eagles have been willing and able to sacrifice the body, with 13 different Golden Eagles blocking multiple shots on the season. Jackson Faughnan (A), Dominic Chirico, and Victor Malzahn (G) are all tied for the team lead in blocked shots, stopping six shots each on the season. 

Unfazed Freshman: Opening UCHC play against #10-ranked Utica this past weekend, Michael Kull elevated his play against elite competition. The freshman from Hamburg, NY, recorded his first collegiate point at home against Utica, assisting on Jacob Gate's third-period goal. Kull maintained his point-per-game average in conference play, adding another assist against the Pioneers last Saturday.

Scouting Chatham: The Cougars currently hold an undefeated 6-0 record overall and 2-0 mark in UCHC play, recently defeating Nazareth 3-2 on home ice. Chatham entered the latest USCHO Division III National Rankings for the first time in program history, ranking 15th in the country. The Golden Eagles hold a 4-3 edge in the head-to-head series since 2021, with the Golden Eagles winning the last matchup in Pittsburgh, 5-3. 

Brockport falls to Utica on the road

The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated at nationally ranked Utica, 5-2, on Saturday, November 15th. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in UCHC play following the conference loss.

David Filak would make the most of a busy evening, stopping 48 of the 53 shots he faced and setting a new career high for single-game saves.

The #10-ranked Pioneers displayed relentless pressure throughout, attempting 83 shots, with 53 shots reaching the net. Despite recording 15 shots on goal in the opening period, 14 David Filak saves would keep Brockport within a goal entering the second period.

Utica would double its advantage in a hurry, with John Gutt scoring his second goal of the contest just 2:29 into the second period. In desperate need of an equalizer, Josh Grund would break through for the Green and Gold. Sacha Trudel would provide the assist for the Grund goal, cutting Utica's lead in half (2-1). 

The Pioneers would be quick to respond, scoring just 37 seconds later to jump ahead 3-1, adding another goal with 36 seconds left in the period to take a 4-1 lead into the third period. Utica would post a goal in the first 2:30 of each period, with Nick Ahern connecting for a tally to open the third period.

Down 5-1 in the third, Manny Sanchez would net an unassisted goal for his first of the season, cutting the Utica lead to 5-2 with under 13 minutes remaining. Despite late scoring chances from Kaleb Miller, Connor McAleer, Ethan Seibert, and Matthew Lee, Brockport would be unable to build off the Sanchez goal.

Brockport falls to Utica at home

The Brockport Ice Hockey team dropped its UCHC Opener against #10-ranked Utica, 4-1, on Friday, November 14th. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-4 on the year following the conference loss.

The Pioneer offense was methodical throughout, scoring a goal or more in each period of the contest. Utica would take a 1-0 lead into the second period, thanks to Gabriel Lundberg's opening tally. 

Despite 12-second period saves from Dax Easter, Utica would double its advantage in the second period. Drake Morse would light the lamp for the #10-ranked team in the country to jump ahead 2-0. Michael Kull, Livio Azevedo, Sacha Trudel, and others would create scoring chances, but Utica goalie Kyle Curtin would keep Brockport off the scoreboard entering the final period.

Following a Brockport pre-faceoff miscue, Utica would jump ahead 3-0 on the power play. Nick Ahern would finish the Pioneer tic-tac-toe on the man up.

Needing an offensive spark, Jacob Gates would be up to the task. Gates would bury the Golden Eagles' lone goal of the contest, with Kyle Kussmann and Michael Kull chipping in with assists. 

Less than four minutes later, Drake Morse's second tally of the night would thwart the Brockport comeback bid, giving Utica its first win of the season.

Dax Easter was solid in defeat, matching his career high of 40 saves in a strong effort.

Victor Malzahn would lead the Golden Eagles with two blocked shots. 

Freshman Michael Kull was strong offensively for the Green and Gold, leading the squad with three shots and adding an assist.

Brockport to play Utica this weekend

The Brockport Ice Hockey team will host #10-ranked Utica University in UCHC opener action on Friday, November 14th at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles will then head to Utica to face the Pioneers on Saturday, November 15th, at 7 PM.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles came up short against nationally-ranked Oswego State, 4-1, on Saturday, November 8th. The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-3 on the season following the loss in non-conference action.

Schuyler Flansburg netted the Golden Eagles' lone goal, with freshman Brody Seitz adding an assist. 

Dax Easter kept Brockport within striking distance in the loss, making a career-high 40 saves.

Victor Malzahn was active on defense, leading all players with three shot blocks.  

Keeping Pace: Through four games, two Golden Eagles have played to a point per game pace, excelling in the Brockport offensive attack. Manny Sanchez currently leads all Golden Eagles in points (5), thanks to a team-high five assists, posting an assist or better in three of four outings. Freshman Nick Reif has emerged as a top goal scorer for the Green and Gold, leading the squad with four goals. Reif powered the Brockport offense to a win at Neumann, lighting the lamp three times in a matter of moments in a hat-trick effort. 

UCHC Outlook: The Golden Eagles will open their 2025-26 conference slate at home against Utica, looking to leave their mark in one of the most competitive hockey conferences in the country. The UCHC conference features four teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest USCHO Division III Top-15, including Geneseo (7th), Utica (10th), Chatham (RV), and Albertus Magnus (RV). The UCHC welcomes three new additions to the conference for the 2025-26 season, including Elmira, St. John Fisher, and Albertus Magnus. 

Scouting Utica: Coming off an excellent 24-5-2 National Championship Runner-Up season in the 2024-25 season, the Pioneers have hit a rough patch to begin the 2025-26 season. Utica has jumped out to a 0-4 start, most recently losing back-to-back games against the defending national champions, Hobart College (6-5, 2-1).  The Pioneers endured a difficult non-conference slate that included two games against #2-ranked Adrian College to begin the season, holding the second-toughest strength of schedule in the country. The Golden Eagles will look to secure their first win against Utica in the head-to-head series. 

Up Next: Following the home and home with Utica, Brockport will host Chatham for Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, November 21st at 7 PM.

This exciting enhancement was made possible through the generous partnership of Reliant Credit Union, whose continued support helps us elevate the game-day experience for our student-athletes, fans, and the entire Brockport community.

SUNY Brockport President Dr. Heidi Macpherson and Thomas Miller, Secretary & Treasurer for the Reliant Credit Union Board of Directors, gave remarks prior to the game as part of the ribbon cutting ceremony.

#10 Oswego beats Brockport

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated on the road at #10-ranked Oswego State, 4-1, on Saturday, November 8th. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-3 on the season following the loss at Oswego.

The Lakers wasted no time celebrating Military Appreciation Night, with Ryan Burke lighting the lamp 5:10 into the first period to open the scoring. Oswego would generate several scoring chances in the first, but 14 Dax Easter saves would keep the Oswego lead at 1-0 entering the second period.

In a back-and-forth second frame, the Lakers would double their advantage late in the period. Connor Gatto would find the back of the net on the power play to put Oswego up 2-0 entering the final period.

Needing a spark in the final 20 minutes, Schuyler Flansburg would connect for Brockport. Freshman Brody Seitz would find Flansburg just 56 seconds into the third period, bringing Brockport within one goal.

Despite scoring chances in the period from Josh Grund, Victor Malzahn, and Spencer Flansburg, two third-period goals from Oswego State would halt the Golden Eagles' comeback bid. 

Dax Easter kept Brockport within striking distance in the loss, making a career-high 40 saves.

Brockport loses home opener

The Brockport Ice Hockey team dropped its home opener against Buffalo State, 5-2, on Friday, November 7th. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-2 on the season following the loss. 

The Bengals would strike first in the contest, connecting for a power play goal. Austin Micale would light the lamp to give Buffalo State a 1-0 edge. 

With less than two minutes left in the first period, Brockport would find the equalizer. Jackson Faughnan would notch his first goal as a Golden Eagle, with assists coming from Andrew Haugh and Schuyler Flansburg.

Tied 1-1 in the second period, Buffalo State would own the lone tally of the period. Aaron Andrade would bury the first of his two goals to give the Bengals a 2-1 lead entering the final frame.

Despite allowing 12 Buffalo State scoring chances in the second, David Filak would make 11 saves in the period to keep Brockport within striking distance.

The Golden Eagles would start the third period with a bang, seeing Manny Sanchez find Victor Malzahn to tie the contest once again. Sanchez has been excellent for Brockport to begin the season, notching his fifth assist of the season. 

Across the final 19 minutes, the Bengals would regain control of the contest, scoring the final three goals of the game. Andrew Langlois would put Buffalo State ahead 3-2 at the 6:24 mark, with the Bengals scoring two empty net goals to cement the victory.

David Filak was excellent in defeat, making 34 saves on 37 shots faced.

Jackson Faughnan provided a strong all-around performance, finishing with a goal, four shots blocked, and three shots. 

Sacha Trudel was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 15 of 18 draws. 

Victor Malzahn led the Golden Eagles with five shots, adding a goal for the Green and Gold.

Andrew Haugh had a strong outing, finishing with an assist and a +2 on the evening.

This week's action

The Brockport Ice Hockey team will open the 2025-26 home slate against Buffalo State on Friday, November 7th, at 7 PM before heading to Oswego State on Saturday, November 8th, at 7 PM. 

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles rolled past Neumann University in Ashton, PA, 6-2, on Saturday, November 1st. Brockport improved to 1-1 on the season following the win in Pennsylvania.

Livio Azevedo and Dominic Chirico sacrificed their bodies, recording two blocked shots each.  

Nick Reif (3 G), Aidan Taylor (G, A), Manny Sanchez (3A), Josh Grund (2A), and Joshua Przystal (2G) all provided multi-point efforts to power the Brockport offense. 

David Filak (W, 1-0) was steady between the pipes for Brockport, making 24 stops in a winning effort.   

Freshman Firepower: With seven goals scored across two outings, Brockport's underclassmen have fueled the offensive attack. First-year skaters Nick Reif (4G) and Joshua Przystal  (2G) have shown out to begin their Brockport careers, combining for five of Brockport's six goals in the win against Neumann. Landing on the UCHC All-Rookie Team in 2024-25, sophomore Aidan Taylor started the season strong with a goal in Brockport's first win of the season.

Welcome Back: Missing the bulk of the 2024-25 season due to injury, Manny Sanchez has jumped out to an excellent start to the 2025-26 season. The junior from Potsdam, NY, has racked up four assists to begin the season, recording three assists in Brockport's win over Neumann. Sanchez has proven to be a critical playmaker in the Brockport offensive attack, posting career totals of six goals and 24 assists for 30 points. 

Scouting Buffalo State: The Bengals are coming off a successful 2024-25 season, posting a 16-11 overall record with a 9-5 mark in SUNYAC play. Buffalo State currently holds a 1-1 record, most recently downing Hiram College at home, 3-0. The former conference foes have played 15 times since the 2016-17 season, with Brockport holding a 6-7-2 record against Buffalo State.

Scouting Oswego State: The Lakers rolled to a 16-9-3 2024-25 season, finishing 9-4-1 in SUNYAC play. Oswego was crowned as the 2024-25 SUNYAC Champion, advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The Green and Gold will be searching for their first win against Oswego since the 2014-15 season.

The first 100 fans at Friday’s men’s hockey home opener against Buffalo State (7pm start) will receive a free Reliant Fanny Pack while others will receive a co-branded hockey puck squeezie stress reliever. Reliant will also be handing out free t-shirts throughout the night and will host an exciting intermission competition between the first and second periods.

Reif is UCHC Rookie of the Week

UCHC MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Nick Reif, SUNY Brockport, Fr., F, Depew, NY

In a 1-1 opening weekend for Brockport, Nick Reif recorded four goals on nine shots to power the Golden Eagles offense. In Brockport's 6-2 win against Neumann Saturday, Reif netted three straight goals in 7:55 for his first collegiate hat-trick. He also scored Brockport’s goal at Stevenson Friday.

Brockport wins big against Neumann

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team secured its first victory of the season, taking down Neumann University in Pennsylvania, 6-2, on Saturday, November 1st. The Golden Eagles moved to 1-1 on the season following the victory.

The Knights quickly jumped ahead, with Max Donohoe giving Neumann a 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the first period. Brockport would be quick to respond, netting three goals in the first period. 

Freshman Joshua Przystal would put on a show in the opening period, netting back-to-back goals 3:15 apart in the first to put Brockport ahead 2-1. Josh Grund provided assists on the Przystal goals, with Brody Seitz adding an assist on Brockport's second goal. 

With less than four minutes left in the period, Aidan Taylor would light the lamp, thanks to assists from Jacob Gates and Nicholas Maria. 

Between the second and third periods, Nick Reif would put the game on ice for Brockport. Less than six minutes apart, Reif would record a hat trick, taking advantage of two Brockport power plays to put his squad ahead 6-1 in the final frame. Manny Sanchez would pick up two assists across the three Reif tallies. 

Despite a late goal from the Knights, the Golden Eagles would hold on to cruise to a 6-2 win on the road.

Livio Azevedo and Dominic Chirico sacrificed their bodies, recording two blocked shots each.  

Nick Reif (3 G), Aidan Taylor (G, A), Manny Sanchez (2A), Josh Grund (2A), and Joshua Przystal (2G) all provided multi-point efforts to power the Brockport offense. 

David Filak (W, 1-0) was steady between the pipes for Brockport, making 24 stops in a winning effort.

Brockport loses opener to Stevenson

The Brockport Ice Hockey team came up short in Maryland against Stevenson University in season opener action, 2-1, on Friday, October 31st. 

The first period would prove to be a showcase for both goaltenders, with Brockport goalie Dax Easter (11) and Stevenson goalie Ford DeLoss (8) combining for 19 saves. Despite going on the power play early, the Mustang penalty kill would help send the contest into the second period tied 0-0.

A Brockport two-minute penalty would lead to a Stevenson power play goal, with Benson Blake putting the Mustangs up 1-0. The Golden Eagles would threaten in the second period with multiple scoring chances, but 11 second-period saves from DeLoss would blank the Green and Gold in the second period.

Searching for the equalizer in the third period, freshman Nick Reif would light the lamp 6:04 into the third period to tie the game at 1-1. Manny Sanchez and Livio Azevedo would provide the assist on Reif's first goal as a Golden Eagle. 

Less than 10 minutes later, the Stevenson power play and Blake Benson would strike again, connecting on the man-up to jump ahead at the 4:17 mark of the third period.

Despite late shots from Jacob Gates and Jacob Matthew Lee, the Green and Gold were unable to force overtime, falling 2-1 in Maryland.

Matthew Lee led all Brockport skaters with five shots, going a perfect 2-2 in the face-off circle.

Sacha Trudel, Kyle Kussmann, Spencer Flansburg, Nicholas Maria, and Dominic Chirico all recorded a blocked shot in the contest.

Dax Easter was excellent in defeat, making 33 stops to keep Brockport within striking distance throughout.

Team Notes: SUNY Brockport, who celebrated 50 years of hockey last season, has 21 players back from last season’s team that advanced to the opening round of the UCHC Tournament. Twin brothers Schuyler and Spencer Flansburg, along with 2024-25 UCHC All-Rookie Team selection Aidan Taylor will lead the way. Jacob Gates and team captain Dominic Chirico are set to lead Brockport on and off the ice.

2025-2026 Season Preview

2024-25 Recap: The Golden Eagles finished the 2024-25 season 6-18-2 overall with a 4-16 mark in UCHC contests. The Green and Gold secured conference wins on Alumni Night against Chatham (6-3) and Senior Night against Nazareth (2-0), picking up wins at both Nazareth and Chatham in conference play. Seven different Golden Eagles recorded 10+ points on the year, including 2025-26 returners Jacob Gates, Spencer Flansburg, Aidan Taylor, and Victor Malzahn. Earning the #6 seed entering the UCHC Tournament, the squad would fall in the opening round at #3 seed Manhattanville, 4-1. Freshman Aidan Taylor was named to the UCHC All-Rookie Team, totaling 11 points (4G, 7A) across 22 games played, registering three multi-point games on the season.

Key Returners: Despite losing their top two point scorers from 2024-25, the Green and Gold return numerous key contributors from last season. Jacob Gates returns to lead the Brockport defense, coming off a strong sophomore season where he led the squad with 10 assists, adding two goals from the defenseman's spot. Dynamic forwards Spencer Flansburg and Schuyler Flansburg return for the 2025-26 season, serving as assistant captains and coming off strong sophomore seasons. The brothers from Saratoga Springs, NY, combined for 12 goals and nine assists last season. Landing on the UCHC All-Rookie team as a freshman, Aidan Taylor returns looking to build off a strong first season with Brockport. Playing in 22 games, Taylor netted four goals with seven assists for 11 points on the season. Victor Malzahn returns to the Brockport defense, blocking a team fourth-best 15 shots, adding a strong 10 points from four goals and six assists. Dominic Chirico will serve as the captain of the 2025-26 Golden Eagles squad, appearing in 14 games with 10 blocked shots on the year.

Fresh Faces: The Golden Eagles welcome several new additions to the 2025-26 squad, with many poised to make an instant impact with the Green and Gold. Brockport welcomes freshmen Ethan Seibert, Kyle Kussmann, Michael Kull, Nick Reif, Brody Seitz, Nicholas Maria, Jackson Faughnan, Matthew Lee. and Joshua Przystal.  

Breakout Watch: Limited to just five games in 2024-25 due to injury, Brockport welcomes back Manny Sanchez for the 2025-26 season. Across his first two seasons, Sanchez proved to be a key contributor for the Golden Eagles, racking up 26 points (6G, 20A) in 49 games played with a game-winning goal. The Potsdam, NY native looks to pick up where he left off in the 2023-24 season. 

Between the Pipes: Brockport welcomes the return of goaltenders David Filak, Dax Easter, and Trevor Joule, all of whom received significant playing time in 2024-25. David Filak returns as Brockport's most experienced goalie, starting nine games (15 appearances) with 275 saves and a team-best 3.29 GA/AVG. Filak's 90.8 save percentage led all Brockport goalies last season. Dax Easter earned six starts (12 appearances) as a freshman last season, finishing with 152 saves and an 86.9 save percentage. Despite only appearing in one game, Trevor Joule maximized his minutes, closing out a Brockport win over Chatham with 11 third-period saves. Joule was the lone Brockport goalie to not allow a goal last season.

Special Events: The Golden Eagles will host numerous promotional nights, beginning with Brockport's Home Opener and Reliant Scoreboard Ribbon Cutting against Buffalo State on Friday, November 7th, at 7 pm. Brockport welcomes Chatham to the Wegmans Ice Arena for Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, November 21st at 7 pm. The Green and Gold will celebrate its alumni against St. John Fisher for Alumni Night on Saturday, January 17th at 4 pm. January 31st will mark Senior Day for Brockport, as they will welcome former conference foe Fredonia at 4 pm. The Willie Bee Foundation Jersey Night will take place on Friday, February 6th, at 7 pm against newly added UCHC member Albertus Magnus College. The Green and Gold will close out play from the Wegmans Ice Arena against Nazareth on Friday, February 13th, for Brockport's "Face Off Against Cancer" game.

Season Opener: Brockport will head to Maryland to open the 2025-26 season against Stevenson University on Friday, October 31st at 7 pm. 

Kussman to play at Brockport

The Central Canada Hockey League and the Navan Grads are pleased to announce defenseman Kyle Kussmann has committed to SUNY Brockport for the 2025-26 season. The 2004 born Erin, ON native played two season in the CCHL with the Grads most recently putting up 39 points in 44 games played.

Miller is Associate Head Coach

The SUNY Brockport Department of Athletics is proud to announce the promotion of Brendan Miller to Associate Head Coach. Miller joined the Brockport Ice Hockey Program in 2022-23 as an assistant coach and will enter the 2025-26 season in the new position.

Graduating from SUNY Geneseo in 2022 with a degree in Business Administration, Miller finished his four-year playing career with 54 points (21G, 33A) in 83 games, playing all but two games for the Knights from 2018 to 2022. Miller was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team in 2020, helping lead Geneseo to three straight conference crowns.

“I have really enjoyed my first few years at Brockport and getting to work with and learn under Coach Dickinson. I am excited about the opportunity to continue that further and to help build up the Brockport Ice Hockey Program”

Reif commits to Brockport

 

The New Hampshire Mountain Kings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Nick Reif has committed to play NCAA hockey for SUNY Brockport.

The 5’10 righty from Buffalo, New York, is staying in the Empire State to skate with the Golden Eagles. Reif is a second-year skater in the NAHL. This season he started with the Aberdeen Wings, lacing up in seven games. Following his time with the Central Division team, the ‘04 skater hit the ice in 18 games with the Rochester Jr. Americans. He tallied four goals and five assists during his time with the Jr. Americans. Reif returned to the New Hampshire roster in late January and played in 22 games. He found the back of the net four times while producing three assists. Two of his four goals were scored on the power play.

In his debut season in the NAHL, Reif played a full season with the Mountain Kings. He hit the ice in 57 games, scoring 12 goals while producing 19 assists. 

Chase Nieuwendyk to join the Hall of Fame

SUNY Brockport has announced six former student-athletes as the newest members of its Athletics Hall of Fame. The Golden Eagles will honor the Class of 2025 at the Alumni Awards & Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony and Dinner on Friday, September 26, in the Seymour Union Ballroom as part of the University's Homecoming festivities. The ceremony begins at 6:30pm.

The 2025 induction class includes Chase Nieuwendyk '16.

The only two-time All-American in program history, Nieuwendyk earned Second Team honors in 2016 and Third Team honors in 2015.

A two-time SUNYAC All-Conference First Team selection and D3hockey.com All-Region honoree, Nieuwendyk ranks tied for eighth in career goals at Brockport (45) and also tallied 56 assists in 92 games.

In his senior season, he became just the fifth player in program history to lead the team in goals, assists, and points in a single year, ranking seventh nationally in scoring at 1.42 points per game.

He reached the 100-point milestone in his final collegiate weekend before playing three professional seasons in the SPHL and ECHL.

All-American Scholars

The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) has once again recognized varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom during the 2024-25 season with the announcement of the ninth annual “Krampade All-American Scholars.”

To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for each semester, and had to appear in 40% of the team’s games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders. Schools also were required to be members of the AHCA.

The names of the 664 Division II-III men's ice hockey honorees were recently released.

Galloway re-signs with Galdiators

 

The Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL announced that the club has re-signed forward Connor Galloway for the 2025-26 season.

Galloway, a native of Sugar Hill, Georgia, re-signs with his hometown club for his second season. The 25-year-old forward scored seven points (3g-4a) in 47 games with the Gladiators last season in his first season as a pro. He scored his first professional goal on Jan. 12, 2025, vs the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Prior to turning pro, he played college hockey at SUNY Brockport, scoring 78 points (30 goals and 48 assists) in 75 career games with the Golden Eagles. In his final season in 2023-24, Galloway led the team in scoring with 19 points (7g-12a) in 25 games.

Hagens connection to Brockport

 

With the seventh pick of the 2025 NHL draft, Boston selected Boston College center James Hagens.

Hockey runs in the family.

His dad, Mike, was a defenseman for three seasons at Brockport, from 1997-1998 through 1999-2000.

Mike played in 59 games for the Golden Eagles, tallying 10 points.

Aidan Taylor makes All-Rookie Team

The United Collegiate Hockey Conference announced the 2024-25 All-Conference Awards on Wednesday, March 5^th. Aidan Taylor represents the Golden Eagles as a member of the UCHC All-Rookie Team following his freshman season.
 
In his first season at Brockport, Aidan Taylor totaled 11 points as a forward in the lineup on the ice. He had four goals and seven assists in 22 total games played in his debut campaign with the Green and Gold. Taylor registered three multi-point games on the year.
 
The Golden Eagles finished the 2024-25 season 6-18-2 overall and 4-16 in league play in year one with the UCHC. Their season came to an end with a first-round loss to Manhattanville, 4-1, in the conference tournament.
