Friday night, January 19th, the SUNY Brockport hockey team lost to the nationally
ranked Geneseo Knights at home, 8-2. The loss puts Brockport at 6-10-2
overall and 3-6 in conference play.
It was Chase Maxwell and Manny Sanchez who found the back of the net for the Golden Eagles on the night. Maxwell scored in the second period, assisted by Spencer Flansburg on the play. Sanchez added Brockport's second goal in the third period, assisted by Andrew Harley and Nick Serafin.
David Filak
got the start in net, making 18 saves in just over 31 minutes of
action. Filak allowed six goals before Brockport made a goalie switch in
the second period. Dylan Wiemer finished out the game between the pipes, making 16 saves and allowing two goals.
Halfway through the opening period Geneseo would strike first to take a
1-0 lead and went on to control the game the rest of the way. The
Knights scored three times in the first, taking a 3-0 lead into the
first intermission.
In the second period, Geneseo added four more goals to the tally on the
scoreboard. Brockport put an end to the shutout bid with Maxwell's fifth
goal of the season, thanks to Flansburg's sixth helper. However the
visiting team remained in charge, 7-1, heading into the final frame.
The Knights would find the back of the net once more before the final
horn, with their eighth goal of the game in the third period. With just
four minutes left to play, Sanchez netted his fourth of the season to
create the 8-2 final. Harley earned his sixth assist of the season,
while Serafin registered his third.
