The SUNY Brockport Men's Ice Hockey team hosted the third annual Teddy
Bear Toss Game on Friday night in front of a capacity crowd of around
1,800 fans. Brockport fell to SUNY Geneseo, 4-1, at the Wegmans Ice
Arena, dropping to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the SUNYAC.
This year it was Alex Monteleone who scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal, 17:58 into the second period. Monteleone was assisted by Scott Ramaekers and Sam Dibitetto for the power play score that sent a full crowd's worth of stuffed animals onto the ice.
The stuffed animals were collected following the cleanup after the goal,
as they will be donated to local charities for the holiday season.
In the first period, the Geneseo Knights scored to get on the board
first 10:20 into the game. They would add a second goal just 57 seconds
into the second period. Another score gave Geneseo a, 3-0, lead nearing
the midpoint of the second.
At 16:21 into the second period, Geneseo's Alex Wilkins was sent to the
box for two minutes after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. With
Brockport on the power play Scott Ramaekers sent the puck to teammate Sam Dibitetto who shot it across the ice to Alex Monteleone.
Monteleone picked his spot with the puck, beating the opposing goalie
in top left corner to send the teddy bears flying onto the ice.
Already leading, 3-1, in the third period, the visiting Knights added
one more goal. They kept the Green and Gold from finding the back of the
net the rest of the way, resulting in the 4-1 final.
Aidan Curry got the start in net, playing the full 60 minutes between the pipes. He made a total of 40 saves and allowed four goals.
The Golden Eagles will return to the ice in Dudley, Massachusetts at the Nicholas Tournament on January 7th and 8th.
