Settimo's great game buries Golden Eagles

SUNY Cortland defeated SUNY Brockport, 6-1, in the SUNYAC home opener at Wegmans Ice Arena Friday night. With the loss Brockport moves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
 
The visiting Red Dragons opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 2:47 in the first period, thanks to Domenic Settimo. Settimo would strike again just 18 seconds later, for another short-handed goal to increase the Cortland lead to 2-0.
 
It was all Cortland in the first period, as Nate Berke scored the team's third goal of the game 13:32 into the first period. Settimo would complete his hat trick with just over 5 minutes left in the first to push the Cortland lead to four. Moments later, Settimo netted his fourth goal of the game just 12 seconds later.
 
Going into the first intermission, the Green and Gold trailed, 5-0.
 
Brockport showed some fight with a goal in the second period. Chase Maxwell tipped the puck past the goalkeeper to cut the Cortland lead to 5-1. Chris Aarons and Scott Ramaekers were credited with assists on the goal.
 
Also, in the second period Brockport's Chris Aarons nearly had another score, but the referee waved the goal off.
 
The Golden Eagles entered the third period of the night still down by four goals to their SUNYAC rival. Cortland's Devlin O'Kane would score the last goal of the game in the third period to put Cortland up 6-1 for the final.
 
Nolan Egbert would finish the game with 41 saves in net. Egbert also allowed six goals as he spent the entire 60 minutes between the pipes.
