The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team defeated the SUNY Canton
Kangaroo's in a non-conference game by a score of 7-2 Friday night at
the Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport, NY.
Six different Golden Eagle's scored in the game as seven of Brockport's
skaters recorded assists. Tallying two goals for Brockport was the
hometown native Andrew Harley
who scored two goals in the game including the game winner off a
power-play and also recorded two assists picking up four total points, a
career high for the freshman. Ryan Romeo and Connor Galloway
each recorded three points as both scored one goal while recording an
assist. Romeo's three points now gives him 28 points this year on 9
goals and 19 assists. Anthony Hora picked up two points on one goal and one assist while Jacob King and Zach Norby recorded two points in the game on two assists. Scott Ramaekers and Sam DiBitetto picked up one point as each skater scored one goal while Chris Aarons and Mitchell Parsons also recorded one point off assists against the Kangaroo's.
Scoring Summery
1st Period: Ryan Romeo
started off the Golden Eagle's offense tonight as the graduate
assistant co-captain scored the first goal of the game 13:17 into the
very first period of play off an assist from Norby. Three minutes later
Harley found the back of the net for his first goal of the game as King
and Hora provided the assists.
2nd Period: Starting the second period off with a 2-0
lead, Brockport would let up its first goal of the game as the Rochester
native Matt Passaretti scored SUNY Canton's goal 6:33 into the second
period of play. If you give a goal up you've got to get one back and
that's just what Harley did for the Golden Eagle's scoring less than a
minute as he followed up on the Kangaroo's goal 7:23 into the second
period off a power-play opportunity putting the Golden Eagles up 3-1.
Harley's second goal of the night came off assists from Galloway and
Romeo. At the 12:03 mark of the period, Galloway would get his first
goal, as it was Harley with an assist this time around with help from
King. With Galloway's goal, it would give Brockport a 4-1 lead. 15:20
into the period, the Kangaroo's would score again making things a little
closer as the they would now trail 4-2. At 18:17 Sam Dibitetto
would extend the Green and Golds lead to three getting the puck into
the back of the net with a little help from Parson's and Romeo.
3rd Period: leading 5-2, the Golden Eagles would
continue adding on points as Ramaekers goal came 4:24 into the final
period of play with Norby and Aarons getting's assists on the goal. Hora
would score the final goal of the game with 11:09 remaining in the
period off a power-play opportunity. Assisting Hora on the goal were
Galloway and Harley. In the end the Golden Eagle's picked up the 7-2
Victory over SUNY Canton.
Penalties: The biggest stat line of the night came from
the penalty chart as a total of 67 penalty minutes were handed out
between both teams with SUNY Canton picking up 14 of the 24 penalties
handed out including one 10-minute misconduct and a 5-minute major for
cross checking resulting in the team's second 10-minute misconduct of
the night.
Power-Play Summary: The Golden Eagle's continued to
draw power-play opportunities as their four chances tonight gives them a
conference high 89 total power-play opportunities. Going 2-for-4 on
power-play chances against SUNY Canton, Brockport now has 22 power-play
goals this season, another conference high. Brockport's penalty killing
was just as strong tonight as the penalty kill managed to go 3-for-3 not
allowing a single goal off any of SUNY Canton's power-play
opportunities. Between both teams a total of 12 penalties were called
for roughing, seven for SUNY Canton and five for the Golden Eagles.
Goaltenders: Nolan Egbert
was back in goal for the Golden Eagles as one of the top goaltenders in
Division III shut down the Kangaroo's allowing two goals against 28
shots. Egbert currently has 1.68 goals against average this season, a
Brockport all-time low with a .940 save percentage this season. He
currently is one win away from 10 wins in net this season posting a 9-3
record having spent nearly 715-minutes total in net for Brockport this
season. For SUNY Canton Filip Schlyter drops to 1-4 in net for the
Kangaroo's allowing seven goals while making 33 saves tonight.
Faceoffs: Brockport won 40 of 68 total faceoffs tonight. Jacob King won 10 of his 17 total faceoffs with Parsons winning 11 of his 19 while Chris Aarons won 9 of 12 of his faceoffs.
The Golden Eagle's will next travel to SUNY Canton on January 22nd to
face off against the Kangaroo's as Brockport will try to take the
weekend series sweep. Puckdrop is scheduled for 7pm.
