The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team clinched a spot in the upcoming
SUNYAC Conference Tournament with a solid 2-0 win on the road at Buffalo
State Saturday night. Senior goalie Matt Schneider
made 22 saves and tied the program-record for career wins as he picked
up his 29th victory over the course of the last four seasons. He now
needs one more win to earn sole possession of the record while becoming
the first goalie in program-history with 30 career victories.
Brockport's 14 wins this season are just one shy of last year's total. The Golden Eagles are now 14-8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in conference play and they will be making their second straight trip to the SUNYAC's.
Ryan Romeo got the Golden Eagles on the board early when he netted his tenth goal of the season at the 14:46 marker of the first period on the power-play. Romeo's power-play goal was assisted by freshman Anthony Hora and senior Connor Hutchins. Hutchins now has 14 assists this season and 94 career points.
Brockport's Jeremy Solat then netted his second in as many nights off an assist from his brother Ethan Solat to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage just 1:23 into the third and final period of play.
Schneider stood strong through the third period and held the Bengals off the board to pick up his 12th win of the year. He needs just two more wins this season to tie the program record for wins in a single season. Schneider now has four career shut outs to his credit.
Brockport returns to the ice on the road at Cortland Tuesday night when they take on the Red Dragons at 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles return home for the regular season finale on Saturday as they host Geneseo at 7 p.m.
