KANGAS AND LOCKHURST NAIL WEEKLY SUNYAC HONORS

 


SUNYAC men's ice hockey player of the week:
Ryan Kangas was named the Codfish Bowl’s Most Valuable Player after scoring three goals and three assists including the game winning goal Saturday to take down nationally ranked #5 UMASS Boston.Saturday night in a tie game with overtime looming, Kangas received a pass at the right face off circle and rifled a shot to the top shelf to give Brockport a 3-2 lead with 1:21 remaining. The Williamstown, Mass. native also scored the first goal of the game less than four minutes in. In Sunday’s 5-1 championship win, Kangas netted one goal and picked up an assist on another less than seven minutes into the game. The sophomore also picked up an assist on a power play goal in the second period.

SUNYAC men's ice hockey goalie of the week: Jared Lockhurst took down nationally ranked #5 UMASS Boston Saturday night in the opening round of the 51st Codfish Bowl. Lockhurst tabbed a season-high 48 saves and held Boston scoreless on two power play opportunities including one midway third period with the game knotted at two. The senior held the Beacons to just two goals and held them scoreless for nearly 33 minutes of play in between goals.
