Junior forward Chase Nieuwendyk (Georgetown, ONT) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 10. Nieuwendyk had a big role in leading Brockport to a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Potsdam Saturday night.
Every time the Golden Eagles were in need for a spark on offense against Potsdam, Nieuwendyk filled the bill, finishing the game with a goal and two assists in Brockport’s 3-2 win.
Potsdam jumped out the early lead scoring within the first minute of the game. However Nieuwendyk helped Brockport even the score when he sent the puck from the corner out in front of the net which was redirected by a Golden Eagle teammate past the Bears goalie to tie the score.
Potsdam yet again took the lead, scoring the only goal of the second period.
On a power play in the third period, Nieuwendyk redirected a redirection on a shot from the blue line under the Potsdam goalie to knot the game up at 2-2. The Golden Eagles didn’t take long to score the game winning goal on another power play as they closed out the scoring just 3:34 removed from their previous goal.
Brockport was on a 3-on-1 play with the first pass sent from Nieuwendyk before the Golden Eagles buried the puck into the back of the net securing the team’s first win of the year.
The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend at home in the Tuttle North Ice Arena for the annual Saves for a Cure Weekend both Friday and Saturday. On Friday Brockport is scheduled to for a SUNYAC game against Geneseo at 7 pm and on Saturday a non-conference game against Canton at 7 pm.
