Freshman Chase Nieuwendyk (Georgetown, ONT/Trenton Golden Hawks) of the men’s hockey team has been selected as The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week. In just his second appearance of the season, Nieuwendyk scored two goals against Tufts University on Sunday.

Taking part in the Rutland Herald Invitational, Nieuwendyk made his first appearance of the season in the first round on Saturday against host Castleton. The freshman had just one shot against Castleton, but came back to score his first two goals of the season against Tufts in the consolation match.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Nieuwendyk’s first goal came on a power play opportunity to tie the game. Tufts scored its second goal 1:07 into the second period, but Nieuwendyk tied the game up once again. The Golden Eagles surrendered three third period goals and fell to Tufts 6-3.

The Golden Eagles will take on Morrisville on the road on Nov. 30 for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest.
