Buffalo State outlasted a late push by SUNY Brockport at the Wegmans Ice
Arena for the, 4-3, win on Saturday night. The Golden Eagles drop to
3-7 overall and 2-5 in SUNYAC play.
Chase Maxwell opened up the scoring on power play goal with just under two minutes left to play in the first period. Maxwell was assisted by Alex Monteleone and Connor Galloway. Brockport would take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Joe Glamos tied the score at 1-1 while Buffalo State had a man-up
advantage from a Brockport penalty. Just before the end of the second
period, Nikita Kozyrev would give the Bengals the lead, 2-1, going into
the third.
Buffalo State kept its momentum, adding two more goals at the start of
the third period. Drayton Todoroff scored unassisted just 1:20 into the
period and Jared Figueroa would increase the Bengals lead to 4-1 a few
minutes later.
The Golden Eagles showed great resilience as Jake Mendeszoon
scored his second of the season halfway through the final period. He
deflected the puck past the goalie, with assists being credited to Scott Ramaekers and Andrew Harley.
With just under three minutes left in regulation, Connor Galloway tallied his fourth goal of the season to make it a 4-3 game. Adam Beauvais assisted on the score, as the Green and Gold made the game interesting down the final stretch.
Bengals goaltender Emil Norrman stood strong as Brockport tried to find a
late equalizing goal, keeping the Golden Eagles out of the net. Buffalo
State held off the comeback attempt to walk away with the one goal
victory.
Brockport goaltender Nolan Egbert played nearly the full 60 minutes in net, coming up with 19 saves including some huge breakaway stops.
The Golden Eagles return to conference play next Friday, December 9th at
Wegmans Ice Arena to square off with SUNY Geneseo. It is the Teddy Bear
Toss game so don't forget to bring a teddy bear or new stuffed animal
to Friday night's game for free admission.
