The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team traveled to SUNY Geneseo on
Wednesday night to take on the Knights in the semifinals of the
SUNYAC Ccnference Tournament. The Knights defeated the Golden Eagles by a
score of 3-1 with Brockport's Corey Tam scoring the only goal for the Golden Eagles. Jacob King and Connor Galloway assisted Brockport's lone goal of the evening.
1st Period
The Golden Eagles and Knights battled it out in the first with a lot of great defensive play in the period from both sides. As Nolan Egbert
for Brockport and Matt Petizian of Geneseo started in net neither
goaltender allowed a shot in. Egbert recorded eight saves throughout the
first period while the rest of the Golden Eagles recorded a total of
eight blocked shots throughout the period.
2nd Period
With the game tied still at 0-0 halfway through the game at the
30-minute mark, the Knights scored the first goal of the game 11:26 into
the period to put Geneseo up 1-0. The Knights would go on to take a two
goal lead as they scored again at 16:11 into the period to give the
Knights a 2-0 lead over the Golden Eagles heading into the final period
of the Game. Egbert recorded five more saves into the period with the
team blocking four shots while Geneseo outshot Brockport 15-12 through
two periods.
3rd Period
The Golden Eagles got on the board to make it a close game as Corey Tam scored 9:09 into the final period of regulation. Corey Tam scored the teams only goal in the game with Connor Galloway and Jacob King tallying assists on the goal. following a play which saw Egbert removed from the game, junior goaltender Aidan Curry
came into the game at 9:30 into the third. He managed to stop three
shots as he only stayed in the game for a total time of 4:25 before Nolan Egbert
returned for the Golden Eagles. With the game at 2-1, the Golden Eagles
were a man down and, on the penalty kill with the goalie pulled as
Geneseo scored an empty netter 18:46 into the final period to take a 3-1
lead against the Golden Eagles. As time ran out the Golden Eagles
SUNYAC Tournament run came to an end, and they will now wait in hopes
for an at large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Goaltending
Egbert (12-8-2) spent a total time of 54:29 in net throughout the game
as he managed to make a total of 21 saves against 19 shots. Curry was
perfect in net making three saves against three shots. Matt Petizian
(17-3-0) of SUNY Geneseo recorded 17 saves against 18 of Brockport's
shots on goal.
Faceoffs
Brockport went 29-for-62 on faceoffs as Jacob King recorded 16 wins and eight loses for faceoffs which was the team's best tonight.
