Brockport loses to Buffalo State in OT

The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team (13-8-2, 6-6-2) lost a hard fought battle that went into overtime against the Buffalo State Bengals (5-16, 3-10) by a score of 3-2.

On Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by the Brockport Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) a crowd of nearly 1000 Golden Eagle fans came out to support the Men's Hockey team.

1st Period
To open the game both team's defenses came out aggressive behind stellar goaltending performances from both sides. Brockport's goaltender Nolan Egbert record eight saves with Buffalo State's Emil Norrman recording nine saves as each team recorded shutout first periods.

2nd Period
The Golden Eagles eventually scored first on a goal from Zach Norby 15:22 into the second period. As Norby's goal went into, hundreds of teddy bears covered the ice with the Brockport fans tossing them out there. The stuffed animals were eventually collected and will be donated to the Bivona Child Advocacy Center. With Norby scoring the goal that set off the chaos of raining stuffed dogs, cats, unicorns and even octopi to mention a few, Jake Colosanti and Kevin Mainello helped make the play happen as the two picked up assists on the goal. at 17:32 into the second period Buffalo State would even up the game on a power-play opportunity to make the game tied at 1-1 heading into the third period of play.

3rd Period
Buffalo State would take the lead in the opening minutes of the final period scoring 4:43 into the third to give the Bengals a 2-1 lead over the Golden Eagles. With time ticking down and just over a minute remaining, Brockport head coach Brian Dickinson made the call to pull his goalkeeper to gain a two extra skater advantage on Buffalo State who was serving a power-play. With Buffalo States power-play expiring and Brockport with a 6-5 advantage, just like last weekend the Golden Eagles managed to score in the closing second of the game to tie it up. Andrew Harley scored the game tying goal with five-seconds remaining in the period. The play was assisted by Anthony Hora and Ryan Romeo and would make the game tied 2-2 to send it into overtime.
