The College at Brockport ice hockey team improved to 5-2 overall and in SUNYAC play on Friday with a road win against Fredonia. Jordan Renaud scored the game-winning goal with 2:32 remaining in the third period to give the team the 4-3 victory.
There was a lot of action in the first period of play, as the team's
traded goals all period. Fredonia struck first to take a 1-0 lead just
8:35 into the game. The lead did not last long as the Green and Gold
answered back less than a minute later to tie the score up at 1-1. Shane Visnick found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, assisted by Zach Norby.
Later in the first the hosting Blue Devils would score again to take
back the lead, making the scoreboard read 2-1. Once again Brockport
answered quickly as Jeremy Solat scored unassisted, just 25 seconds later. The opening period of the contest would end tied at 2-2.
Ethan Solat would give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game early in the second, as they led 3-2. Doc Gentzler and Danny Rock
were credited with assists on the score. Fredonia would go on the power
play late in the period, capitalizing on the man-up advantage to tie
the game up at 3-3 heading into the third and final period.
With the score still tied up with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Jordan Renaud would be the hero for the second straight game. Doc Gentzler
fed him with a great pass right in front of the net, and Renaud buried
the game-winner. Brockport's 4-3 victory gives them two wins in a row
heading into Saturday.
It was an even game from start to finish on the stat sheet. The face-off
battle finished tied at 32-32, just as the teams both ended the game
with 33 shots on goal. Goaltender Matt Schneider came up with 30 saves in the game, the third time this season with at least 30 stops in net.
