Given that they can travel through the heavy lake snow bands east of Lake Ontario, the two North Country teams -- Potsdam and Plattsburgh -- will be in town this weekend.
The Friday game against the Bears begins at 7:00 PM. In regard to the conference standings, they are on the outside looking in with a 2-6 SUNYAC record and a 6-11 overall record. They have just 1 win in their last 8 games. They allow 3.53 goals per game and and score 3.06 goals. It should be a win for Brockport as long as they don't underestimate their foe. The Bears are scrappy.
Bryce Ferrell is the man to watch with 7 goals while Vinny Guimond comes in with 6. Nate Skidmore (.901 save percentage) will likely start in goal and he does yeoman's work despite getting peppered with shots to the tune of over 34 a game. Nate is solid and he's about due to steal a game, so be ready.
Saturday's affair is yet another 4:00 weekend matinee. Plattsburgh doesn't look like the totally dominant Cardinals of old with a 7-8-2 overall record, but they're still mighty tough with a 5-3-1 conference record. If Brockport wins Friday and can beat Plattsburgh Saturday, the Golden Eagles could overtake the Cardinals and claim fourth place in the SUNYACs (which is what you want for hosting a playoff game).
To do so, the Golden Eagles have to beat a defensive team that allows a solid 2.59 goals per game. Of benefit to Brockport's even-better defense, Plattsburgh's goal output ranks only 60th in all of DIII.
Rich McCartney has 7 goals and Pat Eagan has 5. Jimmy Poreda is a force in goal with a .935 save percentage. It will take some gritty lunchbucket goals to beat him -- he'll stop flash every time.
At this game you might see some familiar faces in the stands as the Brockport alumni game takes place earlier in the afternoon, bringing together players from recent and distant seasons.
