The College at Brockport ice hockey team defeated SUNY Potsdam Friday
night, by a score of 3-0. With the win, the Golden Eagles move to 12-5-2
overall and 4-4-2 in conference, while the Bears move to 6-12-0 and
2-7-0 in the SUNYAC.
The two teams skated to an evenly matched first period, tying in shots 10-10. The Bears went to the powerplay early in the first as Ryan Romeo took an interference penalty at 16:30. The Golden Eagles penalty kill unit held the bears to only two shots on their first opportunity. Brockport had a PP of their own after a roughing call was made on the Bears, but the Potsdam PK kept the Green and Gold off the board. Potsdam returned to the PP with 4:44 remaining in the period, but once again the Golden Eagles PK stood tall, holding the Bears to a single shot.
The Golden Eagles came out flying in the second period, outshooting the Bears 20-5. The Bears ran into penalty trouble in the second, taking three penalties in the 20-minute span. It wasn't until the third Brockport PP that the Green and Gold capitalized. Freshman Jordan Renaud tucked in his sixth goal of the season on the powerplay with 4:04 remaining in the period with assists to Corey Tam and Hunter Laslo. The Golden Eagles headed into the locker room with the lead, 1-0.
Brockport turned up the intensity right from the drop of the puck in the third, giving the Bears barely any room to breathe. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to two at 12:12 of the third period when Jake Colosanti found Mitchell Parsons back door for his sixth goal of the season. The Green and Gold put the final nail in the coffin at 9:35 when Connar Bass let a shot fly from the point that was tipped in by Robert Flannery for a final score of 3-0.
Senior Goaltender Jake Moore set the programs single-season shutout record in the win, posting his fourth shutout of the season.
