The second semester of play begins tonight when the
Golden Eagles play Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts for a 5:00
PM puck drop.
They are called the Ephs (rhymes with “chiefs”)
after college founder Ephraim Williams. The Ephs are 5-4-2 on the season (by
comparison, Brockport is 5-6-1) and they are a tough play at home where they’ve
gone 2-0-2.
They are a good team, too…they’ve hung with some really
top notch teams. They lost to #10 Babson 2-1; they lost 4-3 to #5 Norwich and
they beat #1 Oswego 4-3 in overtime.
Their competitiveness is a result of some serious
firepower. CJ Shugart already has 8 goals; David Italiano leads them with 14
points; and Roberto Cellini has a 6-6-12 line. Michel Piniois is their #1
goalie. In 10 games he has a 3.27 GAA average and an .874 save percentage.
It’s a family affair of sorts as Ryan Kangas will
get the rare chance to play against a team coached by his father Bill. Ryan has
2 goals on the season after scoring 12 last year. It would be good to see him
get back in the groove under the excitement of this father-son match-up.
