BROCKPORT BEATS CORTLAND

Jeremy DeFazio netted the game winning goal with less than 90 seconds left in overtime to give The College at Brockport ice hockey team a 4-3 win over State University of New York Athletic Conference rival Cortland Friday night to earn a crucial two points in the SUNYAC standings.

With a tie game looming, Nick Gullo passed the puck to DeFazio who was skating through the middle lane.  DeFazio bounced the puck off his skate and it miraculously found the back of the net to seal the win for Brockport (8-7-2 overall, 4-4-2 SUNYAC).  Chris Luker also picked up an assist on the goal.  Strong defense from the Golden Eagles held Cortland (7-7-3, 1-5-2) to zero shots in the overtime period.

Entering the third period with the score knotted, Brockport took a 3-2 lead midway through the period.  Rookie Tim Kielich skated through the Cortland defense and dropped the puck to Chase Nieuwendyk who tucked the puck in the bottom left hand corner for his twelfth goal of the season.  Kielich was credited an assist which extended his point streak to nine games.  The Red Dragons scored with four minutes left in regulation to force overtime.

The Golden Eagles struck first 14 minutes into the game as defensemen Rob Hall scored his second goal of the season.  After receiving a pass from Aidan Verbeke, Hall sent a rocket past the goaltender glove side.  Cortland answered back less than 30 seconds later to send the game to a 1-1 tie at the first intermission.

An early Cortland goal found Brockport in a one-goal deficit to start the second period.  The Golden Eagles answered back midway through the period as Jake Taylor scored an unassisted goal after taking the puck coast to coast.

Reigning SUNYAC goaltender of the week Cole Burack earned his fourth win of the season after stopping 30 shots.  The rookie stood tall all throughout the game, making numerous glove saves to seal the win for Brockport.
