BROCKPORT BEATS CANTON

Brockport beat Canton Friday night at Canton. The teams faceoff at Brockport on Saturday. It was a big night for Zac Sikich as he got his first career hat trick. Chase Nieuwendyk got his 30th point for the season -- and there's still a month of games coming. On top of that, Tim Kielich reached 24 points -- matching the incomparable James Cody's total as the highest rookie point output this century. Could the kid hit 30?

Here's the report from Brockport Athletics...

The College at Brockport ice hockey team netted three goals in the opening period and that's all it took as they beat SUNY Canton 7-2 Friday night in a non-conference game.  Zac Sikich scored his first career hat trick and Jake Moore picked up the win in net.

Brockport (9-8-2 overall, 4-5-2 SUNYAC) scored three goals over a four minute span in the first period to jump out to a commanding 3-0 lead.  Sikich scored his first of the night at the 6:08 mark after receiving a pass from Dylan Shapiro along the right boards.  Aidan Verbeke also picked up an assist on the play.

Less than a minute later Matt Meredith scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Tim Kielich.  Kielich extended his point streak to 11 games.  Midway through the period Jesse Facchini scored to give Brockport a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.  Trevor Simonick and James Ryan were each credited with an assist.

Canton (3-14-3) scored the lone goal in the second period to make the score 3-1 entering the third period.  Sikich netted a shorthanded goal just 34 seconds into the third period.  Chase Nieuwendyk picked up an assist to extend his points to 12 games.  Three minutes later the Golden Eagles took advantage of a power play to extend its lead to 5-1.  Ryan Kangas received a pass from defensemen Chad Cummings and lit the lamp for his eighth goal of the season.

Midway through the third period Sikich completed the hat trick with Brockport's sixth goal.  Verbeke and Nieuwendyk each picked up an assist on the play.  Nieuwendyk scored an unassisted goal in the final minute to play to seal the 7-2 win for Brockport.

Moore tabbed 28 saves on the night including 13 in the second period.  The rookie stood tall on seven Canton power plays, only allowing one goal during nearly 13 minutes of a man advantage.  Moore improved to 2-1-0 on the season.
