BROCKPORT FALLS TO MORRISVILLE

Freshman Ryan Kangas (Williamstown, MA) scored a power play goal late in the first period for The College at Brockport Hockey team to tie the score at 1-1 but Morrisville regained the lead in the second period and sealed a 3-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory with an empty net goal late in the game Saturday night in the Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport.

Brockport (9-7-1 Overall, 4-4-1 SUNYAC) posted a 7-3 victory over the same Morrisville (5-8-5, 3-5-2) team 24 hours earlier.

The Mustangs opened the scoring at the 12:48 mark of the first period but were whistled for a goalie interference penalty four minutes later giving the Golden Eagles a power play opportunity.

A minute into the power play, Kangas rifled a shot past Morrisville goalie Stephen Dombrosky to tie the score at 1-1. Chris Luker (New Hartford, NY) recorded his fifth assist of the weekend on the play and Aidan Verbeke (Elmwood Park, IL) also added an assist.

In the second period, Morrisville regained the lead 6:04 into the period and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Brockport had several good chances to tie the score and had a power play for most of the final three minutes of action but could not score the equalizer. With just 17 seconds left in the period, the Mustangs added an empty net goal for the final margin of victory.

The loss is just the second in the past nine games and the first conference loss since November 22.
Aaron Green (Mt. Albert, ONT) made 26 saves.
