Junior forward Chase Nieuwendyk
(Georgetown, ONT/Trenton Golden Hawks) of the College at Brockport
Men's Ice Hockey team has been selected as the State University of New
York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Hockey Player of the Week for the week
ending on November 30th.
Nieuwendyk was named the Rutland Herald Invitational Tournament MVP after leading The College at Brockport to the championship game victory. During the tournament Nieuwendyk scored three goals and added two assists to help the Golden Eagles to victories over Tufts and Manhattanville.
During the first game against Tufts, Nieuwendyk started the scoring for Brockport five minutes into the second period on a power play goal. Less than one minute later Tufts tied the game at one but Nieuwendyk regained the lead at the 7:48 mark. Nieuwendyk also had an assist on a third period goal that helped Brockport to a 4-2 win.
In the championship game against Manhattanville, Brockport quickly found itself in a two goal deficit. Eleven minutes into the second period the Golden Eagles had a power play and Nieuwendyk was able to connect. Later in the second period Brockport was down by two goals but Nieuwendyk added his second and final assist of the tournament to get the Golden Eagles within one. Brockport defeated Manhattanville 4-3 to capture the championship.
