Buffalo Jr. Sabres defenceman Dylan Howatt (photo credit - Brian Watts/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join The College of Brockport Golden Eagles beginning with the 2014-15 SUNYAC season.
The Fairport, New York native recently completed his third full
season as a member of the Jr. Sabres after joining the club as a 17-year
old in 2011-12 out of his local high school program. Howatt has been a
stabilizing force on the blueline for the team as they have had their
most successful OJHL run in franchise history, finishing as back-to-back
(2013, 2014) West Division champions, as well as winning the South-West
Conference regular season title in 2012-13, the first time in franchise
history.
As a rookie in 2011-12, Howatt posted a respectable 14 points in 36
games played, while also providing a physical edge that saw him take 50
penalty minutes. He became one of the club's offensive catalysts from
the point in 2012-13, finishing second among rearguards with 25 assists
and 28 points in 43 regular season games. This earned an invitation to
join the West Division All-Star Team at the 2012 Central Canada Cup
All-Star Challenge, but he was forced to miss due to injury. Further
injuries would force Howatt to miss much of the first part of the season
and after returning to the lineup in late November, he helped
turn-around the team's fortunes, posting 17 points in 27 games, en route
to a second consecutive West Division crown.
