(Orillia, ONT) each scored a goal and had an assist leading The College
at Brockport Hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Potsdam Friday night in a
State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at the
Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport.
Potsdam (6-12 Overall, 1-8 SUNYAC) applied a majority of the pressure early in the game and had two power play opportunities in the opening minutes of the contest but sophomore goalie Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT) made several key saves to keep the game scoreless for the first 13 minutes of action.
Brockport (6-9-3, 3-5-1) struck first when Chris Cangro (Holbrook, NY) score a minute into the first Golden Eagle power play opportunity of the night with assists from Luker and Nieuwendyk to give Brockport the 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Brockport took a 2-0 lead with Luker's goal on a hard slap shot from the point that went into the upper corner of the net over the goalie's shoulder.
Potsdam trimmed the lead to 2-1 late in the second period but a Nieuwendyk goal in the first minute of the third period with just two seconds remaining in a power play opportunity that carried over from the second period.
With less than seven minutes remaining in the third period, Brockport added an insurance goal as Parks took a centering pass from behind the net as he entered the slot area and fired a shot past the Potsdam goalie for the 4-1 Brockport lead.
Lockhurst was strong all night making 38 saves in the Brockport goal. Shane Talarico made 25 saves for the Bears as Potsdam had a 39-29 advantage in shots.
Brockport was 2-for-6 with the man advantage while holding Potsdam to 0-for-7 on its opportunities.
