Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT/Wellington Dukes) had two solid
performances in net for the hockey team over the weekend and has been
named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week. Making his
first two collegiate starts, the freshman went 1-1 for the Golden
Eagles.
Making his first career start on Friday night, Lockhurst made 42 saves in a 4-2 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Buffalo State. Lockhurst, who allowed one goal in both the first and second periods, stopped 22 shots in the third period alone. Brockport was outshot 22-1 with the one shot resulting in a goal.
Against Fredonia on Saturday night, the rookie allowed a first period goal but shutdown the Blue Devils the rest of the way. The lone goal was enough for the win for Fredonia, but Lockhurst was credited with 26 saves. Lockhurst had several one-on-one saves, including a glove save while on his back.
In the two games, Lockhurst combined for a .958 save percentage. The Golden Eagles are now 1-2-0 on the year and will face the Lakers from Oswego on Nov. 2 for a home SUNYAC game.
