Freshman goaltender Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT/Wellington Dukes) made 22 saves in just the third period and 42 saves in the game to lead The College at Brockport Hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Buffalo State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Friday night in Buffalo.

Brockport (1-1 Overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) earned its first victory of the
season with two goals in the first, one in the second and added an empty
net goal in the third. Buffalo State (1-1, 0-1) scored one goal in each
of the first two periods but despite a 22-1 shots advantage in the
final period, could not score a goal to tie the game down the stretch.
Freshman Michael Zagari (McKees Rocks, PA/Jamestown Ironmen) opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles with his first career goal with an assist from Matt DeLuca (Skippack, PA/Syracuse Stars) 12 minutes into the game for the 1-0 lead.
Just over five minutes later, junior Chris Cangro (Holbrook, NY/NY Bobcats) made it a 2-0 Brockport lead. Assists were awarded to Bobby Chayka (Hardwick, NJ/Granite City Lumberjacks) and sophomore Troy Polino (Limerick, PA/NY Bobcats).
Less than 30 later, Buffalo State pulled to within a goal as Nick
Melligan scored the first of two goals on the night to make it a 2-1
Brockport lead as the first period came to an end.
Melligan tied the score at 2-2 two minutes into the second period with his third goal of the season.
Midway through the second period, freshman Jonathan Demme
(Brampton, ONT/Orangeville Flyers) scored what turned out to be the
game-winning goal for his first career goal. Fellow freshman Jesse Facchini (Mississauga, ONT/Mississauga Chargers) notched his second point of the season with the assist on the game-winning goal.
In the third period, Buffalo State dominated the statistics with 22
shots and at one point late in the period had a 22-0 shots advantage
including 12 shots on two power play attempts for the Bengals.
Brockport's first shot of the period came with 45 seconds left in the
period as Cangro scored his second goal of the game with an empty-net
goal.
Freshman Jeremy DeFazio (Oakville, ONT/Georgetown Raiders) and senior Mike Hayward (Toronto, ONT/Vaughan Vipers) added assists on the play.Brockport returns to action Saturday with a 7 pm road game at Fredonia.
