BROCKPORT TO PLAY WORCESTER STATE THIS WEEKEND

This weekend the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles return to the ice after a holiday hiatus that lasted nearly 5 weeks. On Friday and Saturday they’re hosting the Worcester State Lancers of Massachusetts.

You couldn’t ask for a better way to start the second semester.

The Lancers are 3-6-0 and last season they were a sad 2-22-0. Their suspect defensive play is their greatest weakness. They’ve allowed 4 or more goals in two-thirds of their games played this year and last season they allowed 6 or more goals in 17 games!

Andy Evans, their starting goaltender, is usually buried under a flurry of shots, so his .895 saves percentage has no way of saving the team. Brian Robinson the back-up (who we might see in net on Saturday since this is a non-conference game) sports a paltry .844 percentage. The team’s lone star is Andy Orsini. The forward has 11 points in 9 games.

This series will offer Brockport a great chance to fine tune some of their offensive play (before the return to SUNYAC games) and to continue their strong defensive performance. The Golden Eagles should handily win both games. Friday’s game starts at 7:00 and will be carried on WBSU at 89.1 FM and online at www.891thepoint.com

Saturday’s game starts at 3:00 (note the special time!) and won’t be carried on the station.

I’m looking forward to the games and I even passed up free NHL tickets so I could attend Friday’s match-up.
