A look at the weekend and the season ahead
The Brockport ice hockey team will open the 2026-27 season at home against Stevenson University on Friday, October 30th at 7 pm. The Golden Eagles will take on Neumann University for Senior Night at the Wegmans Ice Arena on Saturday at 4 PM.
2025-26 Season Recap
Ice Hockey finished the 2025-26 season 10-16 overall with a 6-10 mark in UCHC contests, securing a berth in the UCHC Tournament in back-to-back seasons. The Golden Eagles earned two top-15 wins, defeating then #15-ranked Chatham at home, 2-1, on November 22nd. Snapping a 20-game head-to-head losing streak, Brockport downed #10-ranked SUNY Geneseo on the road, 3-2, back on February 20th. Facing Chatham in the opening round of the UCHC Tournament, David Filak delivered one of the greatest goaltending performances in school history. In one of the longest contests in Division III postseason history, Filak set a new career-high with 61 saves, keeping Brockport alive. Despite the historic effort, the Golden Eagles fell to the Cougars, 4-3, in triple overtime, ending Brockport's season. Ice Hockey earned a slew of postseason honors, highlighted by UCHC and Empire 8 Rookie of the Year Nick Reif. Reif (1st team) would serve as one of three Golden Eagles who earned Empire 8 All-Conference honors, alongside Kyle Kussmann and David Filak.
Returning Firepower
Despite losing 2025-26 team captain Dominic Chirico, the Golden Eagles return nearly all their production from last season. Leading goal scorer and conference Rookie of the Year Nick Reif returns alongside fellow top point scorer and experienced vet Manny Sanchez. Reif and Sanchez each led Brockport with 21 points each, with Reif leading the team in goals (9) and Sanchez leading the squad in assists (14). Brockport returns each of their top eight scorers from last season, including Matthew Lee (8G, 11A), Brody Seitz (8G, 11A), Kyle Kussmann (4G, 13A), and Aidan Taylor (5G, 8A). Schuyler Flansburg and Spencer Flansburg return for their senior seasons, bringing a wealth of game experience and leadership to a young Brockport squad. On defense, Andrew Haugh, Nicolas Maria, Jacob Gates, and Jackson Faughnan all return looking to build on strong seasons. Juniors Sacha Trudel, Connor McAleer, Kaleb Miller, and sophomore Michael Kull return looking to make a instant impact. Between the pipes, the Golden Eagles return all three primary goaltenders from last season, including David Filak, Dax Easter, and Trevor Joule.
Fresh Faces
The Golden Eagles will welcome freshman additions Liam Reed, John Rusen, Brayden Scibor, Brennan Green, Luca Restauri, and Joseph Wennogle. Brockport also added in the transfer portal, bringing in junior forward Eric Bertelsen from Elmira College to bolster the offense. In 47 games for the Soaring Eagles, Bertelsen posted career totals of nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. The 2026-27 class will look to leave their mark on the Brockport Ice Hockey Program.
Senior Day
Before the start of Saturday's contest, Brockport Ice Hockey will honor seniors Jacob Gates, Schuyler Flansburg, Spencer Flansburg, David Filak, and Trevor Joule for their dedication and contributions to the program. Schuyler Flansburg will serve as the captain of the 2026-27 Golden Eagles; Spencer Flansburg, Jacob Gates, and Manny Sanchez will each serve as alternate captains.
Scouting Stevenson
The Mustangs are coming off a strong 16-10-1 season with a 13-6-1 mark in MAC play. Brockport came up short in 2025's early-season matchup, 2-1, with the two teams splitting the six head-to-head matchups dating back to 2017.
Scouting Neumann
The Knights finished the 2025-26 season with a 17-9-2 overall record and a 14-5-2 mark in MAC play, winning the MAC Conference and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles rolled to a 6-2 win at Neumann last season and hold a 12-2 record across 14 meetings dating back to 2002.
Up Next: Brockport will head to Cortland for non-conference play on Friday, November 6th at 7 PM.
Wall of Honor and Alumni Weekend
This is a well-deserved recognition of their contributions to the program and the lasting impact they have made on Brockport hockey.
The team looks forward to celebrating them during the upcoming Alumni Weekend and sharing this special occasion with the inductees, their families, former teammates, and the Brockport hockey community.
You will find the schedule of events for Alumni Weekend in the accompanying flier. The team hopes you will be able to join them for the festivities as they celebrate the program, reconnect with alumni, and officially honor this year's inductees.
