The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team traveled to Plattsburgh State for
the first round of the 2021-2022 SUNYAC Men's Hockey Championship. The
matchup for the Golden Eagles against the Cardinals was the third
straight season in which the two teams faced off against each other in
the first round of the tournament. This year, Brockport defeat
Plattsburgh State in Overtime by a score of 7-6.
Scoring Recap
Connor Galloway recorded his second hat trick of the season in the team's overtime victory as Andrew Harley, Anthony Hora, Jacob King, and Scott Ramaekers all scored. Jacob King recorded three assists while both Hora and Galloway tallied two assists with Harley, Jake Mendeszoon, Corey Tam, Chris Aaron's, Casey Winn, Mitchell Parsons, and Zach Norby all recording one assist.
1st Period
In the first period, the Golden Eagles scored twice out of the gate as Connor Galloway
got the Golden Eagles on the board early. 4:49 into the first period,
Galloway scored his first goal of the game on an even strength goal with
Jacob King and Casey Winn
picking up assists on the goal. 13:24 Plattsburgh would come back and
tie the game to make the score 1-1. 15:49 into the opening period,
Galloway would put the puck in the back of the net for the second time
to give the Golden Eagles its second lead of the game. With King and Jake Mendeszoon assisting Galloway on his second goal, Brockport would head into the second period with a 2-1 lead.
2nd Period
To open the 2nd period, Andrew Harley
would give Brockport a two goal lead on a power-play opportunity 1:44
into the period to give the Green and Gold a 3-1 lead with Corey Tam and Zach Norby
assisting the rookies goal. with a 3-1 lead, Plattsburgh would go on to
score five unanswered goals including one off a penalty shot to go up
6-3 against Brockport to end the second period.
3rd Period
On the teams third power-play opportunity of the game, the Golden Eagles
would capitalize to make It a two goal game against the Cardinals off Jacob King's goal 3:42 into the second period. Assisting King were Galloway and Anthony Hora. 18:28 into the final period, Anthony Hora
scored with the Golden Eagles an extra attacker up to make it a one
goal game with 1:32 remaining in the period. Both Galloway and Chris Aarons picked up assists on the goal. Connor Galloway
recorded his third goal of the game to complete his second hat trick of
the season to tie the game up 15 seconds after Hora's goal to tie the
game up and send it into overtime with a score of 6-6. Assisting
Galloway on his third goal and fifth point of the game were Jacob king
and Mitchell Parsons.
Overtime
Similar to last season, the Golden Eagles and Cardinals would take the
first round of the SUNYAC tournament into sudden death overtime. Things
played out differently this season though as Scott Ramaekers scored the golden goal to give the Golden Eagles the 7-6 victory over Plattsburgh State. Assisting Ramaekers were Andrew Harley and Anthony Hora to help Brockport move onto the Semi-Finals of the SUNYAC Tournament.
Big Numbers
With the team scoring seven total goals in the game, the biggest
standout player for the Golden Eagles came from the Sugar Hill, Georgia
native Connor Galloway scored a career high five points in tonight's victory over Plattsburgh with his hat-trick and two assists.
Jacob King,
the Mississauga, Ontario, Canada native also picked up a career high
points game as his one goal and three assists gave him four points on
the night.
Anthony Hora of Clarence, NY tied his career high points game as his one goal and two assists gave him three points tonight.
Nolan Egbert
of North Mississauga, NY recorded a total of 46 saves against the
Cardinals making 22 saves alone in the first period. The goaltender
spent a career high 66:46 minutes in net.
Power-Play
The Golden Eagles went 2-for-4 on tonight's power-play to help the team
in its win while Brockport's penalty kill shut down Plattsburgh
power-play as they went 0-for-1.
Face offs
Jacob king had another stellar night on face offs as the freshman had a win-to-loss record on face offs tonight of 18-to-13. Kevin Mainello also went above .500 on face offs with a 9-to-6 wins to loss record on face offs.
The Golden Eagles will advance to the Semi-Finals of the SUNYAC
Tournament for the first time since the 2014-2015 season where they will
travel to SUNY Geneseo and face off against the No.1 seeded team in the
SUNYAC Tournament and No. 3 team in the Country. That game is scheduled
to begin at 7:00pm at SUNY Geneseo.
