The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team (12-5-1, 5-3-1) traveled to the
North Country on Friday night where they took on the Potsdam Bears
(2-14-1, 1-9-1).
Following a hard fought game between both teams the result ended in a
2-2 tie following 60-minutes of regulation and a scoreless overtime
period. Andrew Harley and Anthony Hora scored both goals for the Green and Gold with Ryan Romeo and Jacob King recording an assist each in the game.
First Period
Following strong defensive performances from both team, Potsdam managed
to score the only goal of the period off a scrum in front of Brockport's
net at 16:07 into the first period. With the Bears scoring the only
goal of the first, they would go into the first intermission with a lead
of 1-0 over the Golden Eagles.
2nd Period
Andrew Harley
started off this weekend right where he left off from lasts scoring the
Golden Eagles first goal of the game off an assist from Ryan Romeo
3:54 into the second period. The Golden Eagles would try to take the
lead, but the bears scored late into the second at the 12:38 mark to
take the 2-1 lead heading into the final period of regulation.
3rd Period
Trailing 2-1 in the third period, Anthony Hora
would come in clutch for the team as following some dirty dekes and
dangles he would tie the game with 3:07 remaining in the third period to
make the game 2-2. Assisting Hora on his goal was Jacob King
Overtime
With both teams playing their first overtime period, the Golden Eagles
and Bears put up many shots on net. Following a scoreless period, the
game would result in both teams first tie this year.
Career Highlights
Romeo recorded his 80th career point and 30th of the season. For a
career Romeo has 25 goals and 55 assists. This season alone he's posted 9
goals and 21 assists. Sophomore Andrew Harley now bumps up his season total in points to 23 on 10 goals and 13 assists. Defender Anthony Hora recorded his 13th point this season on 3 goals and 10 assists.
Faceoffs
Brockport came up big on the faceoffs winning 45 of 70 faceoffs. Jacob King won a career high 20 faceoffs tonight's while only losing 5. Kevin Mainello was perfect on the puck drops winning all eight of his faceoffs tonight's. Tying up on faceoffs for the Golden Eagles were Chris Aarons and Mitchell Parsons who each won seven faceoffs against the Potsdam.
Goaltenders
Nolan Egbert
was the Golden Eagles netminder tonight saving 19 shots as Brockport's
defense barely allowed him to face a shot. The opposite went for Potsdam
defense as they allowed a total of 54 shots on their goaltenders Connor
Green who saved 52-of-54 shots tonight.
Brockport will next travel to Plattsburgh State (10-7-3, 6-4-1) tomorrow
night to take on the Cardinals at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena in
Plattsburgh, NY. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7pm.
