Tomorrow, the Golden Eagles host Plattsburgh in a playoff game.
Let's put this into historical perspective for young Brockport fans.
Our seniors are the only Golden Eagles class who've known nothing but success against the Cardinals.
Previously, Brockport was owned by Plattsburgh whom they play twice a year. In a series that dates back to 1975-76, the Cardinals are 82-8-5 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
Brockport did not secure a single win against Plattsburgh from the 1982-1983 season until the 2011-2012 season. Almost 30 years!
Brockport wouldn't win again until the 2016-2017 season when now senior goalie Matt Schneider broke the curse by shutting out the Cardinals at Plattsburgh, a tough place to play. Later that season, Brockport won 8-4 at home.
In 2017-2018 the team split the series. In 2018-2019 Brockport lost one and tied the other. This season, Brockport beat Plattsburgh twice.
So, Wednesday is a big hockey moment -- the biggest for these young men and one of the biggest for long-time fans like me (27 seasons and counting)...
Can Schneider and his fellow seniors (Pollini, Salerno, Gentzler, Laslo, and Hutchins) finish what they started and put the Plattsburgh mystique and dominance behind us, once and for all?
If they do, literally decades of Brockport players, alumni and fans will celebrate like they never have.
