Fredonia beats Brockport

The Brockport ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Fredonia Saturday night, falling to 9-13-1 on the season and 5-9 in the conference. The Blue Devils improve to 13-8-2 overall, and clinch a spot in the SUNYAC tournament with the win.

Brockport got off to a slow start in the opening period, falling behind 2-0 in the first eleven minutes of the game. Jake Taylor got the team on the board at the 17:55 mark of the stanza with his team-leading thirteenth goal of the season. Chris Pollini and Tim Kielich were in on the assists of that goal, which was Kielich's 20th apple of the season.

Zac Sikich knotted the game at 2-2 late in the second period, with Rob Hall and Connor Hutchins recording assists. Both of the Brockport goals came on the power play, where they were 2-for-6 on the night.

After the Sikich goal, the two teams remained scoreless for the next nearly 20 minutes until Samuel Wilbur scored his second goal of the night to give Fredonia the lead with six minutes remaining. Despite a late penalty that gave the Green and Gold a six-on-four advantage for the final :52 seconds, they were not able to answer, as they game ended 3-2.

Jake Moore played extremely well for Brockport, making 32 saves on 35 shots for a percentage of .914.

With one playoff spot still up for grabs, the Golden Eagles will square off with Plattsburgh and Potsdam at home next weekend, which will include a senior day celebration on Saturday.
