#1 Hobart beats Brockport

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated on home ice, 8-1, against #1-ranked Hobart College on Saturday, December 6th. Brockport fell to 4-8 on the season following the non-conference loss. 

The defending national champions showcased their scoring prowess early, netting the first four goals of the contest in the first period. Hobart capitalized on Brockport miscues, scoring three power-play goals in the first 20 minutes. 

Needing a spark down 4-0, Sacha Trudel would get the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard. Trudel would light the lamp at the 17:43 mark of the second period, thanks in part to a Brody Seitz assist. 

Despite cutting the Hobart lead to 4-1 entering the third, the top-ranked team in the country would net the contest's final four goals. Kaleb Miller, Joshua Przystal, and Livio Azevedo would generate scoring chances late, but the Golden Eagles would be unable to break through. 

Kaleb Miller, Sacha Trudel, and Brody Seitz were all productive for Brockport, finishing with a +1 rating.

Nicholas Maria led all Golden Eagles with three shots on the evening. 

David Filak picked up the start for Brockport, making 33 saves across 46:47 of game action.

Schuyler Flansburg was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 7 of 13 draws. 

Brockpoirt has big win against Elmira

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team rolled to a 6-3 victory over Elmira College on Friday, December 5th. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in UCHC play after the win.

The Soaring Eagles would strike first, with Owen Halloran scoring the first of his two goals at the 7:38 mark of the period. 

The Golden Eagles would respond in a big way, scoring back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead. Great puck movement from Spencer Flansburg and Matthew Lee would lead to a Schuyler Flansburg goal at 10:53. Michael Kull would strike less than five minutes later, assisted by Nick Reif and Joshua Pryzstal at the 15:10 mark of the first period.

Elmira snatched momentum entering the second period, scoring with less than four seconds left to tie the contest at 2-2.

The Soaring Eagles would threaten in the second period, but 16 David Filak saves would keep the home team scoreless in the second period. Brockport would create a flurry of chances late, but the score would stay at 2-2 entering the final frame. 

In the final 20 minutes, Brockport would waste no time jumping back in front. Nicholas Maria would light the lamp 2:01 into the third period, with Kaleb Miller and Sacha Trudel providing the assists.

Josh Grund would give the Green and Gold a huge insurance goal, with Livio Azevedo providing the setup at 8:21. Up by two goals with less than three minutes left, Nick Reif would secure the empty net goal and a victory for Brockport.

Despite a late Elmira surge, Joshua Przystal would net Brockport's second empty net of the contest to give Brockport the crucial conference win.

Three different Golden Eagles recorded two points, with 12 Brockport skaters finishing with a point or better. Spencer Flansburg (2A), Michael Kull (1G, 1A), and Nick Reif (1G, 1A) led the scoring charge for Brockport. 

David Filak (W, 3-2) provided an excellent effort for Brockport, making 40 saves in a busy evening.

This weekend in Brockport hockey

The Brockport Ice Hockey team will head to Elmira for UCHC play on Friday, December 5th at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles will then host the defending national champions, #1-ranked Hobart, on Saturday, December 6th at 7 PM.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles defeated Lebanon Valley College from Castleton University, 2-1, on Saturday, November 29th. Brockport improved to 3-7 overall following the win. 

Dax Easter continued his strong start to the season, earning the win and making 24 saves on the afternoon.

With less than six minutes remaining in the first period,  Livio Azevedo buried an Andrew Haugh feed to put Brockport ahead 1-0 at the 14:07 mark. 

Nicholas Maria would put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-0 with less than seven minutes remaining, thanks in part to an assist from Josh Grund.

Joshua Przystal led all Golden Eagles with two blocked shots, adding seven wins in the face-off circle.

Nick Reif led the shots effort for Brockport, launching eight shots on the afternoon. 

Rookie Spotlight: Playing in eight games to begin the season, freshman Nick Reif has been excellent offensively for the Green and Gold. Reif has connected for a team-high five goals, tied for the fifth most in the UCHC. Since beginning the season with four goals in his first two games, Reif has posted a point or better in three of his last four outings. 

Between the Pipes: With David Filak, Dax Easter, and Trevor Joule all earning time in net for Brockport, the Golden Eagles' goaltenders have ranked toward the top of the UCHC to begin the season. The Green and Gold lead the conference in total saves (319) and rank second in saves per game (31.9). David Filak holds a UCHC third-best 32.75 saves per contest.

Scouting Elmira: The Soaring Eagles hold a 3-6 overall record and a 1-1 record in UCHC play, coming off a 7-3 loss at home against Wilkes. The Golden Eagles will look to snap a five-game losing streak in the head-to-head series.  

Scouting Hobart: The defending NCAA Champions have rolled to an 8-0 start, defeating SUNY Canton 4-0 last Saturday in SUNYAC play. Saturday's matchup will mark the first since the 2023-24 season, with Brockport looking to collect its second-ranked victory of the season.

Brockport beats LVC

The Brockport Ice Hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley College, 2-1, on Saturday, November 29th. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-7 on the season following the non-conference victory.

Dax Easter (W, 3-2) continued his strong start to the season, earning the win and making 24 saves on the afternoon. Easter has led the Golden Eagles to victories in back-to-back starts.

Brockport controlled the pace of the contest, outshooting Lebanon Valley 40-25 in the contest, beginning with a 17-10 edge in the opening period.

With less than six minutes remaining in the first period, Livio Azevedo would bury an Andrew Haugh feed to put Brockport ahead 1-0 at the 14:07 mark.

Following a defensive second period that kept both teams off the scoreboard, Brockport would double its advantage in the third period. Nicholas Maria would put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-0 with less than seven minutes remaining, thanks in part to an assist from Josh Grund.

Despite a late Lebanon Valley goal to cut he lead to 2-1, Easter would make a clutch save at the buzzer to secure the non-conference win for the Green and Gold.

Brockport falls to St. John Fisher

 The Brockport Ice Hockey team came up short against St. John Fisher, 4-2, on Friday, November 28th. The Golden Eagles fell to 2-7 on the season following the non-conference loss.

Brockport wasted no time recording the game's opening goal, taking a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the opening period. Nick Reif continued his excellent freshman season, scoring his team-leading fifth goal 1:54 into the first to put the Golden Eagles ahead early.

The Cardinals would net the equalizer less than seven minutes later, seeing Kenneth Brodie tie the contest at 1-1 with 11:30 left in the period. Despite creating several scoring chances, 11 first-period saves from Trevor Joule would keep Brockport tied entering the second period.

Both teams would trade scoring opportunities across the first 11 minutes of the second, seeing the Cardinals jump ahead 2-1 7:35 into the period. Needing a spark with less than a minute left in the period, Aidan Taylor would change the momentum. Kyle Kussmann would provide the assist for Taylor's second goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2 entering the final frame.    

Despite scoring chances from Victor Malzahn, Ethan Seibert, Brody Seitz, and Michael Kull, the Cardinals would record the final two goals of the contest. A power play and an empty net goal would secure the 4-2 win for St. John Fisher. 

The Golden Eagles were effective in the face-off circle, winning 39 of 58 draws. Sacha Trudel (12-3), Joshua Przstal (9-3), and Brody Seitz (5-1) were excellent on face-offs for Brockport.

Jackson Faughnan led the Golden Eagles with two blocked shots, adding two faceoff wins.

Aidan Taylor led the Golden Eagles with four shots, finishing with a +1 rating and lighting the lamp in back-to-back games.

Trevor Joule picked up the start between the pipes for Brockport, making 32 saves on 35 shots faced.
