Stylus recap of Cortland game

Brockport Hockey Beaten Up By Cortland

By Michael Rose / Staff Writer

An ugly start resulted in another tough loss for the Brockport hockey team, as they fell 6-1 to Cortland. Cortland pounced on the Golden Eagles early on as they found the back of the net five times in the opening period. Peppering 20 shots on frame in the first, the Red Dragons dominated early and never looked back.

Domenic Settimo was the driving force for the Red Dragons, scoring four goals all of which came in the first period. Nate Berke and Devlin O’Kane netted the other two goals on the night for Cortland. Brockport’s sole goal came from Chase Maxwell, assisted by Chris Aarons and Scott Ramaekers.

The Golden Eagles were outshot 47-43 overall in the game. Special teams proved to be a difference maker as Cortland went 1-2 on the power play to the Golden Eagles’ 0-3. The biggest miscue by Brockport, beyond the goose egg with the man advantage, was Cortland netting two goals well shorthanded. Both of those goals came to start the game separated by just 18 seconds. The Golden Eagles power play is now just 2-29 on the season.

Brockport now sits with a record of 3-3 on the season following the loss. The Green and Gold will next be in action Saturday when they take on Oswego State.
