The SUNY Brockport ice hockey team fell to Plattsburgh State, 9-2,
Friday night in the first part of the weekend trip up north. Brockport
now sits at 2-2 overall with a 1-1 conference mark, while Plattsburgh
improves to 3-1-1 and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.
The game belonged to the Cardinals right from the start as they scored
just 44 seconds into the first period. They would go on to score eight
unanswered goals through midway into the second.
Nolan Egbert
spent the first period between the pipes, allowing three goals and made
12 saves. He stayed in the net for the early goings of the second,
finishing his night with 14 saves and six goals allowed before coming
off. Aidan Curry stepped in for his chance at some action midway through the second.
At 14:02 in the second, Scott Ramaekers finally
put Brockport on the board. Raemekers, the Golden Eagle that scored the
overtime game-winner against Plattsburgh last season in the
SUNYAC Tournament, beat the opposing goalie to make it an 8-1 game.
Ramaekers was assisted by teammates Chris Aarons and Chase Maxwell on the play. Brockport headed into the third period down seven.
Early into the third Plattsburgh State scored again, to go up 9-2. However, Matt Anastasio came
back quick with an answer for the Green and Gold. At 6:21 into the
third, Anastasio found the back of the net with assists from James Tilley and Manny Sanchez. The deficit would be too large to overcome as the Cardinals took the victory.
Aidan Curry made a total of 28 saves and allowing 3 goals over the 32:13 minute he spent in goal after subbing in.
