Plattsburgh downs Brockport

The College at Brockport ice hockey team fell to Plattsburgh State Saturday night, by a score of 4-1. With the loss, the Golden Eagles move to 12-6-2 overall and 4-5-2 in conference, while the Cardinals move to 8-9-2 and 6-4-1 in the SUNYAC.

The Golden Eagles came out hungry in the first period, turning up the physicality from Friday night. The Golden Eagles went to the powerplay three times in the first period but the Plattsburgh penalty killers had all the answers. The Cardinals scored a short-handed goal with 44 seconds remaining in the period, extending their lead to two goals.

The Cardinals wasted very little time in the second period, scoring their second goal of the game a minute and a half into the period. The Golden Eagles went to the PP once in the second but were held to one shot on net. Brockport poured on the pressure late in the period, putting a flurry of shots on net, but the opposition's netminder shut the door.

Plattsburgh nabbed their third goal of the game six minutes into the third period on the PP. The Golden Eagles brought the game within two, three minutes later, Doc Gentzler took the puck coast to coast, walked around the Cardinals last line of defense and tucked the puck under the crossbar for his sixth goal of the season. The Cardinals put the game out of reach with three and a half minutes remaining in the period, scoring their fourth goal of the night.
